Hi brother, first of all congratulations for the initiative, has very little material on the net about the Blender video editor, I see in some videos on youtube about increasing resolution and treating video with proprietary software I was wondering if you can do this' upscaling "with Blender video editor, not speak of miracles but at least one masking, reducing jaggies, become sharper edges and smoothing the pixels to at least maintain the appearance of videos with" low definition "old or homemade type. I thank you, and congratulations for the whim in the tutorials.

I like your tutorials, I've learned a lot. On color correction, is there a way to easily match two clips? If I had Clip A, and liked that tone, is there a plugin or other tool that would allow me to apply that tone to another clip? Or is it that with Blender I'd have to manually tweak the settings and eyeball it?
@MikeycalMeyers10 жыл бұрын
flibber123 That's a great question... That would be really helpful when trying to match skin tone automatically between multiple clips. I would usually eyeball it because I'm not aware of a way that you can do it automatically. Having said that, you may find it easier to eye it if you use the "Histogram" view in the Video Preview window. (It's one of the buttons on the preview windows lower bar.) I"ll see If I can find a better solution. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!

I have a couple questions at the moment regarding Blender. How do you add text/titles to a video within Blender? Also, how do you move an image or zoom in a video over time in Blender? Lastly, how have you seen the development of the video editor within Blender? Are new (to Blender atleast) features being added on a somewhat regular basis? How much effort is being put in to enhance the video editor?
@MikeycalMeyers10 жыл бұрын
RiptideRapture >>>How do you add text/titles to a video within Blender? Right now, there are 2 basic ways to do text and titles. 1) Create your Text and Titles in Photoshop or Gimp and save them as transparent PNG files. Then just import them into the sequencer. This works if you need to do a minimal amount of static titles. 2) Create text and titles (as well as animation sequences) in the "3D view" and import them as a "Scene" into the sequencer. This method can be used to make very professional, animated, titles but it can be a little time consuming. One thing that is really nice about Blender is that it supports "Addons" that have been created by the community - written in python. There are some "Addons" that will automate the titling process; so that it works more like other video editors. I will be covering this stuff in future videos when I talk about titling in more detail. >>>Also, how do you move an image or zoom in a video over time in Blender? There are 2 methods for this process. I actually show you how to do it using the "3D view" in my 2013 video editing series. But there is an easier way to do it directly in the sequencer. It requires that you learn how to insert "KeyFrames" into the properties settings of a "Transform strip." (Sounds complicated but it's actually very easy.) This is a topic I will be covering very soon in my 2014 series when I cover using the "Graph Editor" because the Graph editor is used in conjunction with keyframes. >>>Lastly, how have you seen the development of the video editor within Blender? Are new (to Blender atleast) features being added on a somewhat regular basis? How much effort is being put in to enhance the video editor? The video editor is fairly feature rich but it's not always simple to use. That is one reason why I am doing a series on Blender, it is my way of outlining and simplifying video editing with blender for the general public. So that we can all see the areas where it can use improvement. The number 1 thing it needs is an official titling feature. Like I said, there are some addons that work but there really needs to be something more official. When it comes to blender, I have always felt like the video editor is a bit of a "Second Class Citizen." Why? Because most people don't even know it exists. Most people look at Blender and think, "Oh ya, that 3D program." I've bumped into people that have been using Blender for a year and never even knew there was a Video Editing side of the program. This is what I am trying to remedy. I am creating tutorials so I can get people to use it more so that maybe we can get more people thinking about developing more features for the video editor.

Then I saw that the right side of the screen is now (in the slightly newer version 2.79 that I use) divided in a 'Strip' tab and a 'Modifiers' tab. So for those who also can't find it, look in the other tab :)

Greetings yet again Mr Meyers , oh Blender Guru from heaven . I have another question I can think of asking no one but you (your the only one who answers them lol) . I have an interesting problem to solve . My friend sent me some of his game footage to use in a video of mine. Unfortunately it was recorded apparently in 4k (3440 x 1440) , so it appears in blender to be skinny so to speak , or taller than it is wide. Can I somehow stretch it back to look correct somehow , so when I can combine it with my other footage?
@MikeycalMeyers8 жыл бұрын
You have couple of options: 1) Convert it to a lower resolution (What I would do) using Handbrake. In this case use my video on handbrake for help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHmtY4pmhMuVapY 2) Or import it into the Blender Video Sequencer. Right click on the Video Strip to select it. Then go to the "Strip" menu below the Video Sequencer and select the option, "Set Render Size". This will force blender to use the correct video Resolution. Having said all that, I would highly recommend converting with Handbrake because dealing with 4K video is not fun because it takes a ton of CPU power and RAM to render it out.

I know this is old but I am going thru the series for a second time and frankly it's still as good. But : 1. I am on 2.78. I have 2 strips and want to apply color correction from strip 1 to strip 2. Putting an adjustment layer above the 2 strips works. However, I have read that since 2.77 you can use copy to selected strips/append. How does this work? I have tried and it will not copy CC on strip 1 to strip 2. 2. Also, if I have a strip I do NOT want color corrected, the only way I know is to move it to *above* the adjustment layer. Is that the standard way? TIA
@MikeycalMeyers7 жыл бұрын
This feature is a little bit glitchy at times, but it can work. Here is what works for me: 1) Set your strip modifiers for the primary strip. 2) Press B and draw a box over all strips that you want to add the modifier to. 3) Click the "Copy to Selected Strips" button in the Primary strip. 4) If it doesn't work, make sure that all the strips you selected are Image or Video strips.
@generic45637 жыл бұрын
Glitchy indeed. Here's what happened. I tried your suggstion and it still wouldn't work with color balance. It simply would not copy over values to the boxed strip. I then decided to try applying brightness the same way and sure enough that works perfect! A blue "underscore" links the strips which I wasn't getting with the color balance attempt. I then added color balance to the brightness and it worked! So I ctrl + z everything and tried color correct on its own and now it's working. Hold on...I will try closing Blender and starting new and see if color balance still works...yes it does...same footage added to new sequencer. Is moving strips *above* an adjustment strip to stop the adjustment being applied to them a usual working practice? Thanks.

I know this has nothing to do with this video :D but im desperate:D Hope you can answer this one: The video I want to import has odd FPS numbers. For example this one video has the fps number of 52.414. It really messes things up because it tends to either desync with audio, play too fast or problems like that. Is there anything I can do?
@MikeycalMeyers8 жыл бұрын
+d35t1201 What happened is that you recorded the video with a Variable Framerate. This is a common problem when recording with some Game recorders. It's important to remember that you should always record video at a Constant Framerate. (There is usually a way to Lock framerate in most game recorders.) Having said that, you can convert a video to a constant framerate using Handbrake by setting the frame rate to a specific frame rate. Watch my video on using Handbrake at the following link, and set the frame rate to 60fps or less in the video tab. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHmtY4pmhMuVapY (Skip to 5:31)

I've been playing around with an adjustment layer over a portion of my video, and when I play from the beginning, there is a huge frame drop where the adjustment layer is. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks for the tutorials!
@MikeycalMeyers9 жыл бұрын
Madison Asun The more layers you have, the more frame dropping you will see in the preview window. But the final rendered video should always have a constant frame rate. Preview Window Frame dropping is actually a feature. Blender does this to keep the video and audio in sync when your computer doesn't have enough raw processing power to render the frames in real time. It only drops the frame in the preview window not the final rendered video.
@madisondie9 жыл бұрын
I guess I should have expected that. Seems I'll just have to get used to it until it's done. Thanks for the help! Your videos are great.

Can you manage sharpness of the video in blender?
@MikeycalMeyers7 жыл бұрын
You can't really sharpen video using the VSE in blender, but you can sharpen images or video segments using the node editor in the blender compositor view. The sharpen node is located at the following menu location within the Compositing view: ADD -> Filter -> Filter (That's right, there is a "filter" option in the "filter" submenu.) Select "Sharpen" from the Drop Down menu.
@MikeycalMeyers7 жыл бұрын
It is slow because blender, as of 2.78, doesn't have multi-core render support. So when it renders it is only using 1 CPU core of your processor. I have worked around this issue for the "final render", when I created my render script. But currently, there is no way to render the proxy using multiple cores. Yet... This video covers my workaround for rendering video faster with blender. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJjagWiCZsd8ec0

@MikeycalMeyers4 жыл бұрын
In 2.8, modifiers are placed in a tab on the right of the strip properties. I will cover this in my newer 2.8 series. But here is the reference manual: docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/video_editing/sequencer/properties/modifiers.html

blender can render as black and white by selecting the BW button instead of the RGB button in the encoding section of the render properties window.

thebigch33s3 Nice tip!
@Mokiimo6 жыл бұрын
What if I just want to increase the saturation?
@MikeycalMeyers6 жыл бұрын
More advanced color correction can't be done directly with the VSE. But you can bring footage into the blender compositor (node editor) and fine tune saturation and much more. I don't specifically cover that in this series because it is a feature that is high complexity and outside of the video editor. Look up video videos on KZbin that cover "color correction in blender compositor." I may cover this in my next series.

@MikeycalMeyers10 жыл бұрын
Noahnoha You can easily reverse the video by right clicking on the video strip, go to the video strip properties (on the right side of the sequencer), scroll down to the "Filter" section and select "Backwards." This will only reverse the video. If you want to also reverse the audio, you have to export the audio to a wav file, import it into an audio program and reverse it. I am going to do a video on this process in the near future.

Next select an mpeg-4 container, h.264 video codec and AAC audio codec. set the "start frame" to the beginning of your video and the "end frame" to the end of the video. Once you have done that, you can create your mpeg-4 video by pressing the "animation" button and waiting for it to render to the location specified in the output section.
