This is by far the best tutorial method. Everything is clear, concise and at a reasonable speed. So far 0 need to rewind. This is how all tutorials and many forms of learning should be done. Thank you for creating this.

I have watched his videos for years, totally professional, easy to understand and ANYONE can do this because this is WELL EXPLAINED. Mikeycal, you needed to hear this and I am one of many who truly appreciate the time and effort you put into this and many videos. AUTOMATIC LIKE. Bobby

and then I made an entire video game in Blender and also a CG short rivaling Dreamworks visually and at lunch I simulated a huge physics system while uploading the mp4 I cropped - it has nothing to do with "Linux" - you just aren't on Blender's level. Video editing is such peasantry to what Blender is capable of that adding more video editing capabilities to it would be trite, like adding training wheels to an airplane. BALDOR KNIGHTS! lol But for real though it's 3D modeling software. You can access the data directly in Blender and it interfaces with modern game engines seamlessly. It's 3D rigging and animation suite are beyond production-quality, it in fact has some esoteric capabilities (silly shit modders added heh) professional software doesn't approach. It's modular and anyone can add to it. I doubt anyone doing VFX seriously uses Linux full time, Linux gets used seriously for servers. There are too many niche tools in any technical art Linux wont run, and as a technical artist you simply do not have time to wrestle with an OS. Linux is a hobby for a lot of people. Some other software is surely a better dedicated video editor for Linux.

If it's as easy to get started in video editing as it is in 3D modeling/animating, it's no wonder.

Hey Mikeycal! I just wanted to say thanks for making this series. I just recently started making some of my own videos for a new gaming channel, and your videos totally convinced me to use Blender for editing. I found your episodes to be nicely paced very easy to understand, plus the length of each made them highly accessible. It's super easy to find what I'm looking for in your Blender playlist. Anyway, I just wanted to say "thanks"! If anyone ever asks me how I learned to edit with Blender, I'll send them your way! Thanks again, Mikeycal, your videos rock! :D

Thanks a lot for making this video! I've been looking for good, free, and most importantly open-source video editing software for a long time, now. I was confused when I heard Blender worked as video editing software, and I decided to see it for myself. Of course, this was mind-boggling on its own when I first opened it up, but when I looked up a tutorial and found these videos, learning the ins and outs were a breeze. You go over things very briefly, while still keeping the essential context of the subject's meaning. For example, you described all of the basic parts of the editor (Speaking more specifically of the Preview Screen, sequencer, etc.) in right over a minute and a half, whereas most people in a tutorial would have had to make an entire video just on that alone. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I like the way you set this up. Nothing's over-complicated or dragged on for far longer than it should be, every feature is described simply and effectively, and you even show us how to use them. 10/10; I can finally make a decent looking video.

Oh man, your a life saver! I am using an ubuntu, and every single video editor I downloaded thus far would either just gets all messed up and glitchy, not work, or leave out the sound in the export. Now I am not having a problem with any of those issues thanks to blender and your tutorials! And to think I have had blender all this time, and it was right under my nose.

I started watching part 2 of the latest version then stopped and decided to watch the latest version of part 1.... Feedback: Much more professional version. I was just fine with the older version; but, this one is quite an improvement. I'm just two minutes into part 1 and you've provided a more in-depth intro into the graph editor and the timeline. Thanks for the video. I have only been using Blender for a about four weeks. Until recently I did not realize the it had video editing capability’s. I have tried several other programs that are free to use but nothing works as well-behaved as Blender. You have a clear and easy to hear voice and your videos are paced very well. If I could be so bold however - while filming -- up your DPI under properties so the screen is a little more readable. I changed it to 100 for my own use - It does make a deference in useability. Changing the DPI is very easy -- and I would recommend for anyone who has the same crappy eyesight as myself. Its the First option on the Preferences/System screen. I think the default is 72 -- I found that around 100 sets the screen resolution to a more acceptable ratio. You will lose some onscreen detail in the dialog boxes -- but give it a chance. In the end you may not be squinting as much. I got this advice from Andrew Price -- who also does blender videos.
