Justice must not be adversarial but restorative; it must seek not to divide genders but to unite them in shared purpose. Rather than adopting Western ideologies wholesale, movements must adapt them to align with the principles of collective well-being and respect for tradition.

As according to me... I still feel, nagaland is safest state for women in India as compared to other states... Is all because of culture and religion... I personally have equal rights for women and hope all naga men feels the same. Personal problm Or crime should not be included... It can be happen to both gender.

PART-1 The Need for Gender Neutral Laws in India In recent years, several laws in India, such as the Domestic Violence Act, the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, POCSO Act and the Dowry Act, have aimed to protect vulnerable individuals, primarily women, from violence and discrimination. However, there is growing concern that these laws can sometimes be misused, leading to innocent men facing severe consequences, including wrongful imprisonment and protracted legal battles. The Reality of Misuse Many men find themselves ensnared in legal disputes where the allegations made against them are either exaggerated or entirely false. This misuse often stems from personal vendettas or attempts to settle scores in relationships gone awry. The consequences can be devastating, leading to tarnished reputations, loss of employment, and emotional distress. For example, the Domestic Violence Act, intended to provide protection for women, has sometimes been weaponised to make false accusations against partners. This not only undermines the purpose of the law but also diverts attention from genuine cases of abuse that require immediate intervention. Recent statistics reveal a troubling increase in the number of FIRs filed in Nagaland under laws related to domestic violence and harassment. For instance, data from the Nagaland State Police indicates that between 2020 and 2023, the number of FIRs related to domestic issues rose by approximately 30%. Reports show that a significant percentage of these complaints are filed under vague or misapplied sections of the IPC, as well as the BNS, without sufficient evidence. Case Studies Several cases highlight the implications of this misuse: 1. Case A: A woman filed an FIR against her husband alleging domestic violence, only to later retract her statements, claiming coercion by family members, friends or lawyer to file the complaint. This situation exemplifies how social pressure and outside influence can lead to the misuse of legal provisions. 2. Case B: A case was lodged against a family for alleged economic harassment; however, the investigation revealed that the family had supported the woman's career aspirations and child support. The misuse of legal avenues for personal vendettas and to claim property can create unnecessary trauma for families.

Has the NSCW taken suo moto cognisance of any report of violence and issued summons? Also, what about crimes by women on women, like disrobing and shearing off hair of 'immoral' women? Happened one too many times in Nagaland.

PART-2 Legal Complications The repercussions of misusing FIRs are profound. Innocent individuals can face arrests, legal battles, and social ostracism, even when allegations are unfounded. The process of proving one's innocence can be lengthy and costly, leading to emotional and financial strain. Societal Impact The rise in misuse of FIRs has broader societal implications. It erodes trust within families and communities, fostering an environment of suspicion and fear. Genuine victims of domestic abuse may hesitate to come forward, fearing their cases will be overshadowed by the misuse of laws intended to protect them. The Case for Gender Neutrality The concept of gender-neutral laws is essential to ensure that all individuals, regardless of gender, are treated fairly and justly under the legal system. Implementing gender-neutral legislation would help prevent the misuse of laws intended to protect vulnerable populations while ensuring that those who genuinely need protection can still receive it. 1. Equal Protection Under the Law: Gender-neutral laws would uphold the principle that all individuals are entitled to equal protection and justice, irrespective of their gender. This ensures that the law does not favour one gender over another, thus promoting fairness. 2. Addressing False Allegations: By creating laws that do not assume guilt based on gender, the legal system can better address false allegations. This would discourage individuals from using legal mechanisms as tools for revenge or manipulation. 3. Promoting Awareness and Education: Gender-neutral laws can foster a more comprehensive understanding of issues surrounding domestic violence, harassment, and discrimination, encouraging both men and women to engage in discussions about their rights and responsibilities. Conclusion The need for gender-neutral laws in India is becoming increasingly evident. While the intention behind laws like the Domestic Violence Act and the Dowry Act is to protect the vulnerable, it is crucial to ensure that these protections do not come at the expense of justice for all individuals. A legal framework that emphasises fairness and equality will not only safeguard the rights of those in need but also strengthen the integrity of the legal system as a whole. By addressing the concerns surrounding misuse, we can work towards a more just society where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. May better sense prevail. ✌️

Nagaland is safe neither for Men nor for Women, in fact no place is completely safe for anyone. Violence against Men I believe is also unreported if we include emotional and mental abuse. The bottom line is this, no place is perfectly safe for anyone, some form of violence is bound to happen to either of the gender. Yes we should protect our Women and spread awareness about the safety of our women. However we should also learn to appreciate the safety state of Women in Nagaland. I'm 100% sure most women are safe in Nagaland. The tag that Nagaland is safe place for women is true and we should be proud of it. Rather than find something bad to say about our people, sometimes learn to appreciate the civility of our people and at the same time address some loopholes that's present. Really respect Women of our state but some are just too inclined towards the negative side and always play the victim to patriarchy. Yes, violence against women is prevalent and there are unreported cases too, however to say Nagaland is not a safe place for Women is just not right and I completely disagree with that.

With no offence to you, I don't think you can give a surety that our state is 100% safe especially if you are a man. Like you mentioned no doubt violence happens to both men and women but they also said in the video how women are much much more vulnerable to such violence. Speaking from experiences too it does exist in our state too no doubt and there is nothing wrong in addressing this issue no matter the low rate of crime reports. In fact shouldn't we confront such issues more so as to completely eradicate it and make our state 100% safe not only paper but in reality too.
