I've got to add another comment which has nothing to do with my previous comment. My NDN grandparents taught me not to play in the woods near their place on top of the mountain after dark. They told me the "Little People" would get me. The Little People are part of Cherokee mythology, though there are Little People stories in other Tribes across the continent and into Canada as well. So, their stories are so well told that Swamp Dweller, I would suggest you do some research into them as they are very interesting. Nonetheless, when I turned 10 I bought my first rifle and my first motorcycle and started taking them up into the mountains by myself. No one in our area thought a thing about a kid with a rifle and a motorcycle heading up the mountain, no one said a word. I would take off at first light and not return until after dark. Finally, I brought up what I'd been wanting to do since I bought the motorcycle and that was sleeping out overnight on the top of the mountain. Kind of like a vision quest. I knew my mom wouldn't let me do it but my Pop certainly would, so I had to wait until he was in town at the dinner table. I asked the question looking directly at him. Without hesitation, he said sure, then, without thinking I pushed my luck by asking if I could stay more than one night. I saw him crinkle his eyes so I quickly added, "If I come home to check in after each night." Pop gave me the ok as long as I did check-in. Cool! I spent 5 nights alone in an old sleeping bag with a green, waterproof tarp over the top of me and a tiny fire. It was heaven for a 10-year-old Native boy back then. After I did this I had friends ask me if I was scared. Of course not, why would I be scared? I had been running up and down those mountains chasing my Grandfather's coon hunting dogs for the past couple of years. I never carried a flashlight and was always close to the dogs. What's to be scared of? It's always struck me that people are afraid of what they don't know, but I know what's out in the wild places, or at least I have known. Great stuff, Swamp Dweller! 👍🏻🪶🪶🐾🐾🪶🪶👍🏻

Let me try this again ... Being Native, Robert Springfield's story resonated with me the most. I quit hunting after spending 15 years in the military. I had seen enough blood. One thing that bothers me about stories like this is that there aren't any decent tracks to follow. My Cherokee grandfather taught me to track beginning as a boy with insect tracks. If you believe I'm being facetious, you're wrong. Even they leave a trail. That scent dogs found no trace of Robert is so odd and leads me to bring out the quote from Sherlock Holmes, quote "When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth" 26:16

I hope so, too. However, very very unlikely. 😔 Imagine the unfathomable torment and suffering of the loved ones- not ever receiving any answers, yet as our innate human nature, they are left to question everything and everyone involved, and to slowly (after many years) most lose precious hope and cross the line into gut-wrenching, final acceptance - when all hope is lost. What horror. Take care, everyone. Be safe out there.

I believe it fits most of these cases. Wado for bringing these stories to our attention, they're fascinating to consider. Blessings to you all. 👍🏻🪶🪶👍🏻🪶🪶🐾🐾

People from the South pronounce things differently, Southern Cannibal pronounces things similarly to Swamp Dweller. Pronunciations change throughout the different regions in the U.S. Mainers pronounce things differently , from let's say Texans. It is just a matter of different regional pronunciations.

In the Tom Messik case there is also the mysterious "LOUD, Weird, sound that all the Hunters who were with Tom claimed to hear. They said it sounded like a ( door shutting? It sounded metallic). Yes, and another person disappeared in the same area just weeks before Tom disappeared. Maybe that was his Brother?
