Thanks for all the measurements! Now,, to the workbench!

I am now using Facebook! I will be using it much like a blog with follow up information from video content here. As well as pictures and interesting things that doesn’t warrant a full video. facebook.com/Andrew-McNeil-246328355935566/

In the video both pens on boom didn't sound meter also ... btw i thougt it was > open dipol no balun, folded (loop) needs balun, you mentioned the oposite... i count 14 elements not 16 ?

Finally you used a wifi yagi in the correct vertical polarized position!

The measurements will be slightly off because of that balun; the impedances and reactances must be adjusted by changing the spacings and sizes of the parasitic elements and also the antenna's directional characteristics including the F/B ratio will be changed by the spacings of the elements.

Possibly a stub matching circuit. Never seen one so close to the radiator. The other option is a stub transformer. Transmission line theory always has something new for me to study. Never ends.

You are awesome Andrew. One suggestion. Please mention gain of every antenna on each video's thumbnail. That will be helpful. Thanks.

You do need a balun with a folded dipole if you are using 50ohm coax.

That balun or matching element was very interesting.

Thanks for the details. That last video got me thinking about polarization more and with this video immediately thinking to further improve this and your other yagi designs by adding a perpendicular element to all the elements like instead of just the dipole, use a quadrupole or "+" like pattern. Seems would not only increase gain from surface area... will increase gain from the scattering?/refraction? where the polarization might have changed. For sat comms antennas makes more sense... I'm guessing in urban environments and antenna positioning still makes sense.

coax too thin, elements need to welded to boom, insulated boom creating rf blockage due to too wide, might make 4.5db not much more.. good to see the guts of things on your videos

Andrew, that dipole has no balun, nor is it folded, It is just a standard dipole.I would have thought that would affect performance significantly, very unbalanced. When you test your antennas, rather than see how many access points they find, please direct each one to one access point, hook up, and do a speed test. It is more meaningful.

There is a similar dipole balun design, slightly modified for parabolic dish feed from Stella Doradus antennas. I teared apart plastic case and it was made using Rg213 and soldered and crimped brass or tin thin plates. It works well. I am modelling LFA yagi on Mmana-Gal, using different diameters of elements for 2.4. Quieter antennas with full loop dipole. Over 20dbi with short booms.

years ago i did a lot with yagi`s, i remember theres a factor to include the calculation with balun`s , thought it was 0,68 or something like that, too long ago for me but that might be explain the short driver elements.
