My husband and I built our first dome in 1978 in California. Loved every minute of our time there. Have just moved to Kentucky to get away from the crazy politics and yes I will be building another dome. My husband has passed but my son is taking up the banner and we will each have our own dome and homestead. So efficient and strong, never had a problem with structure.

Cool! We are very happy with our dome home. So unique. Check out Trippy Acres on KZbin... a new channel & dome self build in Tennessee.

Looking Good! I will be building a few Natural Spaces Dome kits for clients this summer and it is always fun to see others doing it. Keep up the great work.

How did you treat the wood surfaces tho protect them against rain?? Maybe GFK?? Like wooden boats? I am planning a new pattern of 480 Deltoid surfaces. I made the plans with fusion 360. And i am very interested in experiences from others who made similar domes.

We put a roof on it. Specifically Grace Ice & Water Shield and roofing shingles. Please check subsequent videos for more details.

Good work. I could tell you weren't a pro builder before you said so when you said that was a messy job site. Haha. That's a clean job site. Again, nice work

Ha! Thanks... yeah, total noobs. I have a bad habit of using all horizontal space... I should make a New Years resolution... lol.

Yep, that was the process done by my roofer in 2020 (this video is from 2018). Please check some of the more recent videos to see how it came out.

How much did it cost you?
@AdirondackDomestead4 жыл бұрын
You can find pricing info at Natural Spaces Domes. Every project is different, and the dome kits are only the shell. Essentially double the price (at least) when fitting it out w foundation, well, septic, walls, doors, windows, kitchens, baths, elec, heating, roofing, etc... and my costs do not include much outside labor.

Are all the plywood triangles the same size? Some look smaller in the video.
@AdirondackDomestead4 жыл бұрын
Not all the same size. Different length struts & different triangles. That's the nature of a geodesic dome. The plan specifies exactly where each strut & triangle goes. See- naturalspacesdomes.com/

Hi Dave. How many sheets of 4x8 ply did you use?
@AdirondackDomestead3 жыл бұрын
That's hard to answer. The triangles and riser panels came pre-cut. I'll need to look through the construction manual & plan to try to give a better answer. And... it really depends on the dome (dia., freq., extension openings, etc.). The garage is a mid-profile 3V @29' dia. Main dome is low-profile 4V @47' dia. Both have two extension openings. One sheet of the T&G 3/4" plywood makes at least one triangle... and cutoffs are probably used for all the various strut gussets. Since mine was a pre-cut kit I'm unsure how that played out.

Yeah, thought about that. As I'm a total noob in creating videos I thought I'd just do vlogs with minimal editing.

Why? Why would you NOT use something translucent so you can grow food? What's the point of a Geo Dome if it's not being used to grow food? Looks stupid if you ask me.
