Hi. Thankyou for sharing your video. I am also an active person. I do Taekwondo and various other sports and unfortunately I too have bad nerve pain 10 months after my first L5S1 Micro Discectomy. I have recently been for an MRI and I am awaiting the results however I am almost certain I have reherniated. I am really happy to hear that your reherniation largely healed itself. I am hoping that maybe that will also happen to mine. I dont want to go down the route of another micro disectomy. I look foward to your next update. Thankyou once again.

Hey! How are you doing now? I hope you are all good. Have the same disc herniated and it was horrible. The amount of "jelly" that went out was so much that the pain was horrible and my genitals were kind of numb. Recently, the tingling came back a little bit, but no pain. I have to see if I reherniated it again (11 months after surgery), hopefully not. Maybe this is too late, but my recommendation is to learn about atg training and how to strengthen your lower back. There's ALWAYS a way! You got this!

Thanks for all your vids and information. I am 1 week in post-op from a 13mm L5/S1 micodisc. I like yourself am an active person. Runner, surfer, and mountaineer. I am really taking this hard because I do know there will be NO hills to run or mountains to climb for 1 whole (bleep) year. I know I may go cuckoo, but I'm just gonna reform my life I suppose. Like yourself, I heard the garbage about the disc going back in. No, sorry. For now, it's a matter of changing my lifestyle. At 50, I suppose it's time to chill the (bleep) out.
@megant35305 жыл бұрын
The Plutonian don’t fear! Just focus. Heal now, retrain later. I’m so happy to be back at the (near top) again after so long, but I regret trying to get back to it so early, which caused Reherniation. You should be able to hike again next summer, but take baby steps! I’m not chilling out as long as I can move my body!
@KBradAdams4 жыл бұрын
The Plutonian, I am also 50 and that is part of the issue, the younger you are the faster and easier you heal. I am no doctor but I was told a study was done after Microdiscectomy's one group was told to be aggressive after 2 months, another eased in and waited 6 months and there was no difference in the outcomes. I think you just have to listen to your body if you do have surgery. I am going nuts being active my whole life but now having to take it easy even carrying groceries into the house or up stairs. I ended up getting a motorcycle and that really helped with the mental aspect of not being able to do as much as I could before, but with a recent back pain I can not even ride it. So we will see what my original surgeon says after my MRI tomorrow. I am actually hoping he opts for surgery because nothing has really helped to this point to get me back to where I was physically, when I ramped up training even slightly the back would pop and go out.

I was told after my microdiscectomy I would be back to doing what I was before after 6 months and it's been over 2 years since mine and I am not even close. The surgery was great and I was pain free that day but I can not lift anything without feeling like I pulled my back again. I have numbness in my foot and left leg and burning in both legs and slight numbness in my right foot as well but not as bad as the left. I had another MRI but because I am not crying or complaining how much pain I am in they wont do another microdiscectomy. The problem I have is before surgery they said I had a ruptured disc at L4/L5 and also at L5/S1, so I asked if they would do both. The Neurosurgeon said no just L4/L5. Anyway I think that is causing my issues. I told him OK I am going back to what I was doing now since you say that is ok. I started working out again and after 1 workout my leg is burning again similar to when I first injured the disc. I feel like I am going to end up re herniating it if I haven't already. I don't want to be bed ridden again and where I can't stand or walk but I feel like I am 70 years old some days. Before surgery were exactly was your pain? Was it on the back of your calf, front or inside, outside? Which toes were number or where on your feet? My pain started in my left lower back and went across my hip... I could actually feel a ton of pain at the hip outer thigh and outer calf as well as my foot. Just curious if your previous pain matches mine now then it might be L5/S1 or could be re injury of L4/L5. I will say the best rehab I got was doing the Stuart McGill 3 exercises and walking but it did not fix me completely but helped the most compared to a waste of money doing PT. Good luck and looking for updates soon.

KB Adams before my surgery my entire leg felt like I had a string of fire running from my left butt check into my toes. I could not stand up straight, I was a walking 90 degree angle. My Reherniation gave me a really sore butt muscle and then numb toes on the left with occasional stabbing but nothing near as bad as my first injury. I’m now 19 month post op, and doing quite well. I enrolled in an online program called MoveU and it’s helping with the last little lingering nerve pain. I’m running and snowboarding again, I’m just out of shape from being inactive for 2 years. Otherwise I’m much better. Back is still some mornings, and I’m careful to lift. Good luck with your healing!

@@megant3530 Yeah It's funny well not really but this morning around 5:30 am I moved in bed like a pelvic tilt and "POP" that feeling when you know your in for a painful day. This seems to happen every 4 months or so out of the blue or if I do something strenuous a few days before. I went back and did a Brazilian Jiujitsu class this passed Monday, just the warm up and drilling and my back felt stiff the couple of days. So I did nothing but walking and light stretching. Now my back goes out? Something has to be wrong inside there. I have only a tiny bit of pain in my thigh but not like the sciatic pain I had before and you described as fire from my back to my foot. Of course now I have numbness in both feet from the first incident. How did you get them to do a discectomy again. My guy said fusion would be next? Thanks for the reply and keep me updated...

@@megant3530 I'll be honest, I could not sit in the position you are in and do a video. But again if my pain level was a 3, I probably wouldn't do surgery either. When it first started it was a 3, I dealt with it for 6 years, then had the burning feeling you talked about when it finally went to level 10. Do you think you could have done the MoveU program in that pain instead of having the surgery? I don't believe any amount of stretching or training it going to fix a ruptured disc. Its like telling someone to stretch for a torn ACL knee ligament. Without surgery it will never fix itself. I guess everyone is different. Good luck and keep us updated.
@megant35304 жыл бұрын
KB Adams if your pain or mobility is that impaired you will have to evaluate all the options but surgery seems reasonable. My mobility was impaired the first go-around and surgery was not optional in my opinion. The second go-around it was up to me: pain was there, but no restricted mobility. I chose different avenues. For me getting back to being an active running, hiking, climbing, snowboarding, person is the most important thing to me. For others they may be find with not being so active. It’s going to come down to your personal choice, and my decisions for my body have nothing to do with yours. Get second opinions, interview people like me and like you, talk to the people at MoveU the guy that started it fixed pain associated with the disc issue without surgery. No you will never get rid of the bulge, but your body can in some situations retrain the nerves to move around the bulge and get on with life. For me, I might always get numb toes when I sit at this table: but I personally decided I was okay with numb toes.

I no longer smoke weed every night and I don’t need Advil or any other pain killer. I have had a seizure disorder since childhood and I was taking 100mg of gabapentin long before I hurt my back. Gabapentin is a seizure med that is prescribed to help with nerve pain. I still take the same dose of gabapentin, but it was not prescribed for pain and is not a large enough dosage to make a difference. My pain level is nearly 0 every day with some tingles and twinges here and there. On the rare occasion I get pain it is only for a day and never higher than a pain level 4-5.
