As an ISTP, I’ve often wondered why we don’t have songs about food. It’s extremely relatable to every human alive. And relatability is one of the key components to writing a hit song, right? And am also a big fan of the lost art of long instrumental segments in songs. Your song with two lyrics and a long jammin’ instrumental part afterwards sounds like a good idea to me!

I (INTJ) tried writing a poem once about a sunset, and it turned into a dark story-poem that involved the truth about why the sun never rose again in the morning costing a human's humanity and siblings killing each other before the heroic sibling that wanted to bring back the sun even had the chance to do it. I think INTJs are physically able to make bright, sunny poems but might not be mentally inclined to do so because we see that reality is full of darkness. Perhaps it is the Ni/Se combination, combined with enough Te to directly (literally and metaphorically, when combined with Ni) address what is going on in our heads. Without a ton of thought about the public's potential reaction. I personally feel an almost-moral obligation to be real with people and myself, but I am unsure of whether this is an INTJ thing or simply a me thing.
@danicleckley54043 жыл бұрын

@@alicialexists oh, I once tried to write a poem about sunset, too. Turned out as poem about the twilight and other stages of the night, while someone was dying, and ending with them dying at dawn. You might have guessed by now, I'm also an INTJ.

Spot on! As an INTJ poet and music composer, I care for depth and layers in my work. Sometimes it hits with the wind, or with sight, smell, emotions, top, bottom, left side, right side, behind... Such a waste it is if I don't jot it down then and there.

They're very similar types, and always get on smashingly. For example, the one person I know who loves Pink Floyd perhaps even more than I (INTJ) do, is an INTP. The lyrics are always phenomenally clever (and usually dark), but the best Floyd is primarily about: melody, melody, melody-in that order.

INTJ here who dabbles in songwriting when inspiration strikes. I do not poetry either when I create lyrics, whether through spontaneous song or a word processor. I simply express what I want to express (usually not personal feelings unless they are a fictional character's and not too mushy and romantic), in the way that the narrator would be most likely to express them if s/he were singing instead of me.

Dude! ENFP is so accurate. The level of energy I invest in a project when I first take it on is explosive, and then I walk away to literally eat food and I am off on another tangent already working on another project. (Also, I love the background that the ENFP got, coffee mugs sprawled around the house!! Hahaha, exactly how my place looks, amongst other unfinished art endeavors.)

INTJ here, this is definitely similar to my thought process, trying to figure out how to convey a complicated idea in a way the audience will be receptive to. In fact, I once wrote a song for the ending of a story. (Although it was more of a poem since I didn't compose background music. Though I did imagine the music.) I spent some thought trying to figure out how to metaphorically convey the essence of the storyline and how to allude to its spiritual themes, doing so in a pleasantly colorful way and without being too "on the nose" about it. I think it took me an hour or so to finally form the lyrics. Overall I was happy with the end product.

The only music where he managed to put lyrics in it, the lyrics were : *..laughing is not enough, laughing is not too, loving is not enought, loving is not too...* I think, ENTJ need to use their inferior function Fi to produce good lyrics. He wrote this song for me at the beginning of the relationship, maybe that's why, he succed.

As always, the subtitles are a great, hilarious bonus. One of my pet peeves about modern music is how often the subject is "I". And sometimes it isn't directly, but it's still focused on the me. Good we didn't have that coming up a lot. Also wondered about how an INTJ could possibly believe in something like hollow world... then I remembered thinking's only their second function. No wonder. :P ... although the INTJ did get closer to finishing the lyrics than the INTP. So there's that. Edit: shouldn't you, of all people, know the degree to which sanity is overrated?

OMG! As an ENFP songwriter, I can talk about thi- Nevermind Kristin managed to sum up my entire process and I’ve never felt more called out in my life 😭 Let me rephrase. I’m an aspiring songwriter. I have a document full of 50+ song ideas, most of which I have brainstormed or started in some fashion. I’ve taken more care into organizing the document than I have into finishing any of the songs. Only one of them has gotten far enough to have finished lyrics and backing chords. Oops. I also can’t write music, because I spent two years learning perfect pitch (on accident, so no commitments here) and now I’m a bit too lazy to learn to read sheet music. So I record my songs on video (since it’s easier to remember snd reproduce them that way). And I make 25 minute brainstorming videos for the ideas that sweep me off my feet. Those videos are me attempting to vocally put together the song and the instruments and the words in real time. And oh my goodness, I sound absolutely insane in those videos with the way I mumble and go off on tangents and randomly start belting out choruses, all while pacing the floor endlessly. (So me all the time, but with supercharged inspiration and Ne.) The one good thing about making music like that is that I’ve gotten quite good at making up lyrics on the fly. I’ve challenged myself to record improv songs before, where I just pick a key and sing whatever. I’m not bad at it, which scares me. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the first songs I finish end up being songs I created in one fell swoop. To my detriment, I often get perfectionistic with the ideas I like the most, and then they never get done. I get all sorts of ideas- songs about random things, songs about my experiences, songs where I’m addressing people, even songs that are musical adaptations of stories and characters I want to write… but finishing is SUCH a stumbling block. I’ve promised myself I’ll finish the latest one I came up with and I’ve been coming back to it consistently for about a week now. Progress!! Wish me luckkkk!!

What helps me (INTP) is knowing how many mistakes are in successful songs. Even a lot of songs I like have imperfections that I think are obviously imperfections and should have been done better. But the songs *work,* and I take heart in that.
@larryplotter26073 жыл бұрын
Wow I relate to this comment way more than I should lol. You'd think having 13 years of music education and perfect pitch would make things easier but I just end up getting sidetracked and thinking how every chord combination or rhyme has probably been used by someone already and that I can never be truly original or something similar to that. This results in a ton of unfinished drafts in my notes that I tell my myself I'll finish one day (but I'm not sure if I actually will) Oh, I'm an INTP btw
@sophiaredwood58253 жыл бұрын
@@restlessmosaic I’m slowly, slowly trying to tell myself this, hahaha. Like, if the perfect lyrics or structure aren’t coming, who cares, definitely not me, time to just keep writing anyway and enjoy whatever happens. (I do try to tell myself stuff like that out loud because all of my instincts tell me to run away from every shred of uncertainty or imperfection.) Once I learn to suppress the urge to throw away every imperfect project for a perfect, untainted idea, I think I’ll be able to finish things. Even better- the other day I finally realized that no matter what, there will ALWAYS be a new idea. Which means the current one will ALWAYS be discarded. So I might as well finish it and make it decent while it’s at the front of my brain, right? That’s been pushing me forward, just slightly. Thank you for your lovely advice, I’ll remember it next time I’m tempted to get up and walk away from the process 🤩

That sounds great! Making your own song is so much fun! I never wrote lyrics actually. I just like to sit down with my guitar and playing chords randomly. Music means a lot to me. It gives me the opportunity to ,,express'' myself. It's the best way to relax and recharge after a busy, long day. I say don't let yourself get distracted and finish those songs! (no pressure, just an advice😀) Good luck!

@@larryplotter2607 Looking back, one of the best things that could have happened to curb this issue for me was that I started making music on my parents' Pentium I, and it had a fault in its memory that, if a song got on the corrupted bit, the project was unrecoverable. So I had to make a song and then delete the project or else I couldn't make another one. It got me into an extreme linearity on songmaking that I still basically have 20 years later. As for originality, I do a fair number of plagiarism/sanity checks throughout my projects (as a musician and a lawyer, it's doubly worrisome for me). What I've found works for me is that, if it's within 5 bpm of something similar in a song I like, that's indicative of borrowing too hard. Ultimately, one reason my songs are working better this time around compared to years ago is because I'm taking parts from many more songs (in disparate genres) than I'm used to. If you think of existing songs as blueprints for problem solving rather than blueprints for sounds, I find that it helps. FWIW, my music is done as Restless Mosaic if you want to check whether my approach is working. (I've been in the background of two videos on this channel, as a matter of fact, because Kristin is wonderful and nice.)

The task laid out to us was just to write poetry, whatever that we can think of and just let the words take the stage, I still didn't understand why most of my classmates' just didn't rhyme or is overly drawn out with "big" science words. It was the only time my English teacher ever praised me lmao, she was not enthused by me never submitting or finishing most homework whatsoever.
