Just a little summary of the video 802.1d(STP) convergence = 50s 802.1w(RSTP) convergence =< 10s 802.1w(RSTP) Timers - Max Age Timer is 6 seconds - No more Forward Delay Timers Port States - Forwarding - Learning - Discarding(Listening + Blocking + Disabled): - Will not send or receive frames - Will not learn MAC address - Will receive BPDUs Port Roles - Root - Designated - Alternate - Backup: is used when multiple ports are connected to the same network segment(hub) 802.1w & Physical Connections - Point-to-point Link: e.g. two switches are connected via a full duplex Ethernet connection - Edge Connection: e.g. a switch is connected to a PC - Share Connection: e.g. a switch is connected to a hub (Not benefit from RSTP) 802.1w convergence - Stable state -> add new link. Switch A will take a proactive approach and block the rest of the ports - Negotiate with the Root Bridge - Switch A update BPDU - Switch B and the rest switches repeat the same the process with A
