The whole "felt patch" break rule is kind of a giveaway. Family Billiards is one of the only places I've ever seen this mandated.
@DRAG0NSIN77 жыл бұрын
what do you mean by this? just curious if you view it as a bad or good thing?
@hardway_68237 жыл бұрын
Hi ThreeOneUP - If I understand you were asking me about my comment, than I see the 'patch break' thing as simply an unnecessary distraction that serves no real purpose. Ostensibly it is done to spare the cloth, but in fact it's pretty darn hard to actually damage Simonis cloth in the course of normal play unless you're really trying. I can't recall ever seeing a table, including ones with very well worn cloth, where there was some overt sign that people were breaking from a certain area - or at least any sign left by the cue tips from breaking, which I guess the little felt patch is supposed to mitigate somehow. It isn't at all uncommon to see two faint "tracks" in older, more broken in cloth originating in the area of the first left and right diamonds at the foot of the table and pointing to the spot, which is a common nine-ball breaking location, but this isn't caused by cue tips scraping or impinging on the cloth during the break, it's actually caused by the cueball itself, flying down that particular track over and over again, so using a patch wouldn't have any affect on this. And nothing at all against Family Billiards with these comments either, it's one of the great old school rooms left and the tables are very nicely kept and maintained. The way I see it, they can have you break with the felt patch or a damn piece of ham if they want, and that's not asking too much if you want to play in that storied room.

This venue looks just like Family Billiards in San Francisco. Has the name changed, or is West State Billiards the promoter or what?

So you don't get the break burnouts on the table cloth.

I learned to play pool playing snooker. When I first tried 8 ball it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Snooker tables are bigger. Pockets are smaller. And the balls just fits the pocket. Snooker is a much harder game. And when you see someone like O'Sullivan complete a 147 run it is amazing.

And yet, only 2-or 3 snooker players ever made it playing 9 ball

no offense to Rodney hes a smart player obviously, But I think he shot the wrong shot on that combo on the last rack, it didn't immediately cause a loss but it was the iceburg that sunk his ship. there was a runout, he could have runout tand that woulds been that
