Congrats on such a lovely looking pup. Hope you've enjoyed him since 2009. I can highly recommend trying to train without using a food reward. It's a little harder to get started but it stops your dog becoming food/reward obsessed later on. The result is always better when your dog is focused on doing the best they can because they want to - not because they get a cheap feed. Anyway each to their own. Hope you're still having fun with him.

Why people make mean or hateful comments is beyond me, what's the point, besides pure ignorance. Great job training and yes most trainers start with food rewards and hand signals to accompany voice commands. Eventually food rewards and hand cues can be gradually faded out. You have an intelligent, attentive pup, you can see it in his expressions. Enjoy each other and thanks for sharing.

that is so adorable labradors have a lot of engergy. We recently adopted a Shiba Inu it was a little naughty, when we first brought him home he used to bite my ankles it didn't hurt but it was annoying, then it would chew furniture and anything it came across. We recently took a course online as we were desperate and didn't know what else to do, because our jobs schedule we couldn't take a class, but in almost four weeks we have made great improvements and changed his behavior we uploaded a video where he performs a few tricks. Dogs are awesome i think any dog can be trained if you put in the dedication and time needed, because if you don't want to do it why get a dog in the first place.

Confine the puppy to one specific area. Crate training is confining the puppy to a small crate to keep the puppy from reliving himself in the same area where he sleeps. This can be effective for training a puppy when you will be away for a few hours, but crate training during the day will not be effective if you will be away for more than 8 hours. For those away from home all day, the puppy will have to eliminate while you are gone. I only give my Labrador Retriever Hill's treats. Super cute puppy!

My nine week old pup can give you his paw on command and sit on command and at 5 weeks got him to walk on a leash. :)) I am still training, will be a bit before I get my puppy to be able to do things yours can! Great job!! ^_^

Clever pup! I taught my Golden to shake paw (both sides) in a bout a week. Thing about Labs & Goldens is that they've got such eager-to-please attitudes, that they learn pretty quickly. Such obedient dogs,too. Sophie knows tongue clicks & finger points. My other non-retriever dog, Sprite, has been trained to open gates. LOL. I hate it, but my sister taught her! And shake both paws, and down and even 'Time out'!
