i live in corona, this is not commonplace here. corona is one of the safest cities in america, but the economic disparity is rather stark. multimillion dollar mansions just up the street from sketchy apartment blocks and low income neighborhoods. what you do see a lot is burglaries and the occasional robbery, but very low violent crime. kids from 6th st, el cerrito, and home gardens like to go to the rich neighborhoods, but lots of homes here have security cameras and most homeowners are also gunowners. but this happened in one of the lower income areas. what the police say is most likely true, this is an isolated incident, probably kids playing dumb games. very tragic stuff, you hate to see it in your own town.
