I agree. I don't understand why he isn't more highly regarded. I consider him a superior virtuoso and better musician than more famous names such as Kissin, Sokolov or Yang.

I can't believe I am actually seeing Great Gina if only for a brief moment. The Bach Concerto is a great piece and is very well played by young Bronfman. And what an audience! Gina Bachauer AND Isaac Stern! I bet he was never nervous playing after that. Thank you for sharing this rare treasure!

It always amazes me how great musicians can play long pieces from memory. It is like an actor doing a straight dialog for 15 minutes. Besides the obvious musical talent a concert pianist must have a great memory capacity.

Harpsichord, same keys and notes, just not as much sustain when you hit the key and you can really contrast volume a lot with harpsichord.

there are much better the versions of Bach d minor concerto players like Andrei Gavrilov his recording ith Neville Marriner with ST.Martin in the Fields.Tatjana Nikolaeva the most furious fierce Bach d minor ever.Edwin Fischer is a fine too.I have nrver liked Efim Bronfman his Prokofjev 2 concerto is not a great one.The critics like Bronfman Rachmaninov 3 concerto playing as the best.Bronfman plays Rachmaninov 3 concerto with a rough an unrestless fashion with a cool cold tone.Efim is overrated

A useless and tasteless comment. This video is not about a comparative appraisal of various pianists or their interpretations of this particular piece. It's about the obvious new, young talent here appearing, who would go on to a very fine and still ongoing career so many years later.
@larkspur77 Жыл бұрын
I love Gavrilov but he was probably an older more experienced musician at the time of his Bach recording. I do think it's wonderful. Yefim is 16 yrs and it's a lovely spontaneous performance. All pianists play differently and that's what makes it exciting to listen to the same piece many many times... and of course the great composers wrote works of pure genius that stand up to repeated listening. I heard Yefim Bronfam in the early 80's playing violin piano Schubert sonatas at Lincoln Center(anyone there?) The violinist was very good, but I remember Y. Bronfam played with uncommon musical sensibilities. I thought, I hope to hear him for years to come. His Rachmonioff 2 & 3 are so powerful yet when needed he plays with great delicacy. That's how I view his playing - it's in the Russian pianistic tradition as so many of the greats (he studied with Rudolph Serkin a few years at Curtis), but everyone has their favorites. I don't like comparing accomplished musicians, nor do I like undermining the talent, dedication of any musician. It's just not right with the work they've put in. If a musician from a local orchestra plays a solo concert, I think it is important to support them, not to say I wish it had been Trifonov. Long live music, the arts! Get Outlook for Android
