Drums & Demons: The Tragic Journey of Jim Gordon by Joel Selvin New book out on Jim Gordon this week. The blazing rock opera of the greatest drummer of all-time, Jim Gordon, from the legendary Wrecking Crew to redefining rock on the Seventies’ biggest hits and outrageous tours, and ultimately to the most shocking crime in rock history-a story of musical genius, uncontrollable madness, and the big fill Jim Gordon was the greatest rock drummer of all-time. Just ask the world-famous musicians who played with him-John Lennon, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, Joe Cocker, and many more. They knew him for his superior playing, extraordinary training and technique, preternatural intuition, perfect sense of time, and his “big fill”-the mathematically-precise clatter that exploded like detonating fireworks on his drum breaks. And as best-selling author and award-winning journalist Joel Selvin reveals, the story of Jim Gordon is the most brilliant, turbulent, and wrenching rock opera ever. This riveting narrative follows Gordon as the very chemicals in his brain that gifted him also destroyed him. His head crowded with a hellish gang of voices screaming at him, demanding obedience, Gordon descended from the absolute heights of the rock world-playing with the most famous musicians of his generation-to working with a Santa Monica dive-bar band for $30 a night. And then he committed the most shocking crime in rock history. With full cooperation from the late Gordon's family, and based on his trademark extensive, detailed research, Joel Selvin’s account is at once an epic journey through an artist’s monumental musical contributions, a rollicking history of rock drumming, and a terrifying downward spiral into unimaginable madness that Gordon fought a valiant but losing battle against. One of the great untold stories of rock is finally being told.

I preordered the book and have now read its twice. It is excellent and covers a time when Leland was active too. The book mentioned Mike Post and the work involved with TV work that included them. Joel Melvin is an excellent writer and is worth the time to check his other work as well. 👍 Randy what Was the source of the review you posted?

I enjoyed Selvin's book "Hollywood Eden." Library description: From surf music to hot-rod records to the sunny pop of the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, the Byrds, and the Mama's & the Papa's, Hollywood Eden captures the fresh blossom of a young generation who came together in the epic spring of the 1960s to invent the myth of the California Paradise. "Hollywood Eden brings the lost hu- manity of the record business vividly back to life... [Selvin's] style is blunt, unpretentious and brisk; he knows how to move things along entertainingly... Songs about surfboards and convertibles had turned quaint, but in this book, their coolness is restored." New York Times My only gripe with this description is the apostrophes in Mamas and Papas, which confirm a friend's hypothesis that many people believe an apostrophe means "look out! Here comes an S!" I'm surprised to see librarians getting it wrong.

Reminds me of touring a supertanker, from bridge to engine room, while in Bonaire on a diving trip with my family. My brother and I met the Number Two guy in the bar, and we all decided it would be an excellent plan to board the supertanker - at 3 a.m. We were in no shape to do the first dive that morning, and my Dad was royally po'd - because we didn't get him out of bed to go with us. Crazy family. Especially in the boozing years. 🍻🍻🍻🤪😵💫🤣

Hi reminds me a bit of a shopping mall. I've not been to one in many years the last one being tanforran in $an Bruno. I was there for awhile bc I couldn't find my car. Parking lot was a sea of vehicles that all looked alike. Ended up taking a cab home then went back at night and there was my car. It was the only one left in the parking lot. There were 3 characters hanging out and they offered to help me find my car for $50. My husband went back w me to get it. All that said I wonder if the mall is still there.. I'll look it up😢

Fun facts about the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl: -In advance of the ship's transfer across the Ems, originally scheduled for November 4, 2006, the 380 kV Ems overhead line crossing near Weener was switched off. The shutdown of the line put too much strain on the northwest German power grid and triggered a power outage in large parts of Western Europe, as a result of which up to 12 million people were without power for around half an hour. -On April 14, 2010, this cruise ship passed through the Panama Canal. At $375,000, this was the highest sewer fee ever. The price is determined by the weight and size of a ship and averages $52,000. source: Wikipedia

Another fascinating video, thank you. How does attendance at the shows work for these cruises? Does the price of the cruise include all of the shows or does one have to buy tickets for each one? Are they general admission? I can't imagine that there is seating/room for all passengers to attend every show. For example, the hall where Lyle is playing tonight doesn't look as if it could hold all the passengers. Is is it first come first serve or does one have to sign up for a seat?
