1612. During the period called the "Time of Troubles" in Russia, the murder of the tsar leaves the throne vacant causing disorder around the many pretenders. Andrei, a page who witnessed the death of his sovereign, sets out to find the tsar's daughter, Xenia, to put the country back on its feet. Unfortunately, he must first get rid of Xenia's ambitious husband, a Polish general who also claims the crown of Russia.
