Spring has sprung! Black flies. Bug spray. And the first mow with the kubota B2601 compact tractor and my Landpride FDR1660 finish mower, here at the cottage. Testing the lower mower deck height to see if I scalp any rocks. Cheers!

Hi GP :-)....and the final score is GP & mesh = 1; Black Flies= 0....lol. Another great video. The part I enjoyed the most was the front of your garage where you hooked the mower to your tractor. It reminded me when you had the big rock and tree stump dead center in which you had to drive around every time you entered/exited your garage. Proud of you for removing them, and I’m sure you feel a great deal of satisfaction whenever you think of it :-). Keep up the good work. Love your videos. Paul from NB.

Boy GP, that green covering everything sure looks better to me than all that white we've been used to seeing. Love that lake too...I like it as water rather than ice (-: LOL. I really like the Land Pride linkages and the way it appears to so easily follow the ground contour. Looking good sir and hopefully the grass won't be as tall as the snow was deep !!! But if it is I know you'll take care of it.... Thank you sir for another neat and tidy video. ( Doing the evening coffee routine tonight......) Congrats on the 10G milestone GP !!

Nothing beats the cut of a rear discharge mower. I wish Kubota would make a mid mount rear discharge option. With 60 inches of cuttings all going one direction it can get hard to avoid clumping. Best of luck with the flies!! Keep on tractoring

Based in no small part on your channel, I have just recently ordered a B2601 and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I really appreciate how thoroughly you test and explain your implement choices. I ordered this mower deck with the tractor, along with the FEL, BH and 58" tiller. It was time to upgrade from the '86 Deere 850. Hopefully I can find a new home for that old tractor to make way for the new. Thanks for another great video!

I've used a rear finish mower on my tractor since 2006. I really like it. A couple of times I looked back and noticed I had dropped a wheel off the mower. Also the heighth adjustment bushings had fell off too. Luckly I was able to find them in the grass by back tracking. What caused the wheel to drop off of mower was when I backed into a bush (roses), I guess the thorns were catching on the bale of the lynch pins and pulling them out and when I raised the mower the wheel would fall out. I had to replace the lynch pins with a bolt and nut to stop this from happening. Have a good day.

When I had a rear finish mower the lynch pins would flick open if I reversed under low hanging branches. I ended up safety wiring them shut.

Lovely work GP , nothing like a nice lawn. It's the most rewarding way of keeping a property looking well , time well spent . I'm considering a finishing mower for forest paths , already cut with a flail but a little concerned about making contact with soil as it's little lumpy in places . I plan cutting at maximum height and hope to get away with it. Anyway nice set up you have . Slainte.

Uneven ground is always a challenge. Since you only contacted one rock, you may want to try adding soil around that rock to ensure your don't contact it in the future. It is quite quick and easy to make soil from compost. If you have a means of collecting your grass clippings you can make a surprising amount of soil in a summer. Michael from Alberta

GP, hello. Don't know if you monitor these previous videos or not. My faithful John Deere Z turn 757 is int dire need of an engine overhaul. No complaints from me as the mower has been beaten up by the hire help (my granddaughter etc), and has kept the yard mowed. I am thinking of replacing the mower with a new Kubota Z turn, diesel as we store diesel fuel here on the property. We have a BX with a mid deck mower and we have the B2650 (Cab). so my options are to think of overhauling the ending in the spring, and get a rear finish mower for the 2650. Any thoughts?
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Good day JH! LOL! I'm sure she loves helping you out. :)) Just my thoughts: for me, I don't have a lot of grass to mow - only about an acre ( although you see me sometimes mowing Guy's fields). I had a belly mower previously and find the rear finish much better in cut and finish, for me here. However mowing with the tractor is slow. If I had several acres or more to mow, I would be looking at a zero turn for sure. I have not operated a Kubota model but I am sure you will find the several videos on my channel page, I did with the FERRIS zero turn I had loaned to me last summer. It's not diesel but boy, I can't imagine a more comfortable machine to ride or a better, cleaner cut. I wish I could help a little more but wish you the best! Let me know what you finally decide, if you have time. Take care JH!

Since you have use the blade Braille method of finding rocks. I was wondering how often you have had to sharpen and balance the cutting blades. These mowers are so powerful and operating at such a high RPM that in my experience it doesn’t take much of s hit to damage a blade and get them out of balance. This causes excessive vibration and causes damaging stress on the spindle bearings and the gear box. Even on a rotary cutter (brush-hog) Land pride want those 10 pound blades within 1.5 ounces of each other. I am finding that it takes a lot of heavy duty and expensive tools to maintain these mowers. Just wondering how you were handling it. Great video.
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Good morning Jan. thanks - some good questions. I have only hit a rock twice with this mower. I replaced a garden tractor that had a belly mower with this FDR unit. I knew once I got this new mower, that I wanted to clear the rocks from the lawn which was a priority last summer so I didn't damage it ( since I hit so many with the old mower). So I kept the height high on it when in use, and cleared rocks throughout the summer. The blades are in good shape - there is only one small dent in one of them ( from one of the hits). I am not getting any vibration yet but I will be mindful of it and your good info above. I have not needed to do anything but grease it so far. Hoping not to cause bad damage to it as I go forward but I will see. 99% sure I have all the rocks out needed ( except for the one I found). Thanks for the info above. Its helpful to know. Cheers!

i am looking at getting a mower for the kubota, as the prices of riding lawmowers are about the same now lol.. Is yours still doing good? any issues, like having to replace stuff on it? just getting some research out of the way, being in texas we will start mowing next month lol

Hey good day. so far all great. not any troubles - I have only sharpened the blades once. When I did my spring maintenance the gear box oil level was full - no leaks or anything and no problems to date. If you have a mixed property, perhaps also look into the flail mowers. Best of luck!

Works well but other than already owning the tractor and not wanting to spend as much money a zero turn mower would be much better.

Good morning Dan. I would love a zero turn mower. They are pretty awesome machines. I had a garden tractor with a belly mower but sold it after I got the tractor in order to buy this mower. That way I have only one piece of equipment to maintain. Thanks for watching and for the comments!

Okay dumb question but I really take pride in my lawn. Would this type of mower leave stripes like a zero turn or push mower does?
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Good evening Joshua! Its a great question. No , unfortunately it doesn't. I wish it did. As you can see I have a few years of hard work ahead of me to get that lawn in good shape. A labour of love for sure. I had a flail mower for a while (videos are on the channel) and it was great - did a great job of striping the lawn. It would make it look like a golf course. Thanks for the comment and question. Have a good week!

I was wondering when it comes to cutting grass do you just take care of the grass around the cabin only? I wasn't sure if there was any other areas or not since you have a lot of land there
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Good morning James. I only have the grass you see around the cabin. If I had a lot of grass to cut that was underbrush or rougher areas, then i would have most likely purchased a Flail mower. Have a good weekend!

I've never used a finish mower. Is it normal for it to move side-to-side that much? I don't like that much movement on my brush mower.

Good morning 4x4! Yes generally. I have the stabilizers locked into a set position so I imagine it has some give as the lower control arms slide on the pins. Have a good one!

The rear finish mower looks like it works great. Do you ever have a situation or moment where you have wished you had a MMM? We have a similar size yard but a few more obstacles... So I am always in a constant debate over the manveurablity of a MMM vs being able to back a rear finish mower into tight spaces...
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Good morning and thanks for the question Chad. I had a garden tractor with MMM before I bought the Kubota and sold it so I could get a mower for the tractor (one less machine to maintain). Personally I prefer the rear mower as the MMM can't get into those tight places or get in under the trees very well. The challenge, or negative thing about it, is that as you drive , the mower deck swings out behind you wide as you turn as opposed to the MMM which follows under you as you drive, so you have to keep an eye on it (not a terrible thing by any means, but something to consider). I also found that the MMM never cut as nice as this one does and the clippings out the side discharge would often come out in clumps or rows whereas this rear discharge doesn't create any wind rows. I never see clippings or clumps. Hope that helps! Cheers!

Excellent food for thought! The rear swing is my major concern regarding one. I have used enough 3 pt implements over the years to look out for it but it will be a new experience for my wife. That being said I be am happy to hear about the cut quality! I had heard mixed opinions on cut quality. Do you ever see more or less skipping when moving over rough areas? I assume the mower must hold the ground pretty well despite the ground moving the tractor around. My lawn is a bit uneven but you have it beat!
