I still don’t get why the MBTA still only drives with diesel locomotives. How much money would it cost to electrify all of their lines. Most of it has all the infrastructure in place they only need to upgrade the branch lines
@clockwork82512 жыл бұрын

@FFred-us9tw Жыл бұрын
Most of it has the infrastructure in place? Hardly. Only one MBTA line has overhead Catenary. Everything on the northside and all the southside branch lines have none of it. It would cost billions of dollars for the design, engineering and construction of all the infrastructure required to add overhead wire. You would then have to retrofit all the shops to be able to handle electric trains and hire an entire Staff as well as all the buy all the trucks and equipment just to maintain the system. It’s far cheaper to operate and maintain a diesel electric powered railroad

We're complaining about the horns because they sound like absolute _trash_; they're certainly out of place by American standards. If the Americans want to have trains that run at more than 250 km / h, they will have to build special railroads, without level crossings, with fences, with special standards for tunnels, as well as special standards for catenaries. and the rails.

The NEC (Northeast Corridor, in which these trains run on) is owned entirely by Amtrak and has concrete ties, fencing in areas it's needed in, and grade separation. Funding has gone into the NEC so hopefully more hope for removing aging infrastructure and outdated segments that slow all of our modern trains down. For special tracks, Amtrak is currently deciding a more straightforward route with special tracks for the train to run on to let it reach higher speeds and a smoother travel. NYC is really the main tunnel area, and new tunnel construction and tunnel remodeling is under way in some places, just gotta hope more gets done.
@StefanWithTrains2 жыл бұрын
@@cy_torrent they want to upgrade the NEC to have alot of 160 mph segments for "NORMAL" trains so that means when the avelia will run over it it should be allowed to go 186 mph the journey time would be reduced to around 3-4 hours
@FFred-us9tw Жыл бұрын
@@cy_torrent the NEC is most certainly NOT owned entirely by Amtrak. The entire section from New Rochelle NY to New Haven is owned and operated by Metro North and the tracks from the RI state line to Boston are owned by the MBTA. And there is no complete grade separation. 11 grade crossings remain on the NEC.

Well this train runs on a track called the NEC, and supports a 2.6 trillion dollar economy, so basically the trains pay for themselves. Also on this route, Amtrak makes more than it gets! But either way it shouldn’t matter since Amtrak, like all other transportation companies in the US are subsidized by the government, and that’s okay! We need people to have access to safe ways to get around, and it’s a good way for us to spend our money. Amtrak has bipartisan support in Congress, don’t make things political when they aren’t!
