@frglee Amtrak has been upgrading the rails to handle the new Avelia trainsets for 160mph+ service. The new rails are only in the NE Corridor. However, Amtrak does own a set of tracks between Chicago and Detroit that they have the diesel 'Wolverine' service running at 110mph. I wouldn't be suprised if Amtrak extended the Acela service to Detroit and Chicago on those rails.

Just an FYI, we have had electrified high speed service on the NEC since the days of the Pennsylvania Railroad, which built the NEC. This new unit is undergoing testing. To me tho, it won’t replace the Acela which looked and matched in design much better. The people at Alstrom are morons. These designs are not at all seamless nor matching in streamlining. The locomotive has one of the ugliest designs for high speed rail service. The European designs are much more streamlined and faster… I hope AMTRAK orders a redesign, this is an embarrassment of design…

In a lot of places in the USA, there is no need for protection because the tracks are so far away from any roads, towns, or people. In the cities there usually is some form of fence or wall. But the stations, even the largest ones, have ZERO security measures what so ever. They may have a random security guard walking around but there are no baggage inspections or metal detectors or stuff like that.

The wheels don't care what the suspended body is doing. Tilting is only for passenger comfort, not for tracking. The slight shift in CG to the outside rail would actually be detrimental. And don't forget, the track is superelevated anyway.

Americans saying: "it's an ambulance horn or it's a weak ass horn, we want K5LA horns", STFU they're playing with it for god's sake XD. And anyway, it's a fuckin high passenger train or TGV for the few europeans in the comment section, you don't need a monstrous horn. In Europe, we know how to use the horn on TGVs, when the engineer is saluting, they aren't making ambulance melodies. So leave the ginormous american horns (the badass horns) to the slower trains either passenger or freight.

What? Other that the Acela’s, Chargers and electric locomotives after the E60 nine of America’s trains are foreign. None of the freight locomotives or cars are. The vast majority of Amtrak’s equipment is all US design.

Old any day. This design is awful. The people at Alstrom that designed this likely designed sports cars before… they shouldn’t be anywhere near designing a locomotive… cars don’t have the same wind resistance trains do due to weight…. They had the option of going with a Brightline design, but chose this eyesore…

This train is a joke the USA will never catch up with Japan and China !! In the United States, there is currently one high-speed rail line - arguably. Amtrak's Acela Express, which runs through the Northeast Corridor from Boston to Washington, DC, can reach speeds of 165 miles per hour, but frequently runs at an average of 70 miles per hour between those cities .Hayabusa is the fastest train in Japan, reaching a maximum speed of 320 km/h (200 mph). Starting with the Tōkaidō Shinkansen (515.4 km, 320.3 mi) in 1964, the network has expanded to currently consist of 2,764.6 km (1,717.8 mi) of lines with maximum speeds of 240-320 km/h (150-200 mph), 283.5 km (176.2 mi) .... The fastest train service measured by peak operational speed is the Shanghai Maglev Train which can reach 431 km/h (268 mph). The HSR network reached just under 38,000 km (24,000 mi) in total length by the end of 2020. The HSR building boom continues with the HSR network set to reach 70,000 km (43,000 mi) in 2035

Ok. America has high speed trains now. Do You know how to make them faster? 1. Lower the OHLE 2. Ban freight trains from using NEC or ban excessive height container transport (1 container per well car) Congratulations, now You can enjoy steadier panto, which adds up to higher speeds

Hold on just one min. Did I hear 2, Two distinctive horns. Typical American horn, and a very Euro horn? That's way cool. And all of us train fans already know the outcome. Sorry those beautiful high speed train sets will never reach the speeds that they were really built to run. Sadly we are so so far behind in real high speed train travel. Very sad affair. Everyone wants true high speed travel, but watch on the news, Oh no, not in my back yard, very sad.
