Thank you for this video. Such a beautiful place. I was brought up in Long Eaton in the 60's and my Auntie had a caravan on a farm in Lathkill dale where we went every easter. We have photos of us sitting on the waterfalls but it looks like they're fenced off now. The woodland was always covered in beautful bluebells. Thank you for bringing back happy memories.

Another chance for myself and my partner Christine to see another part of the Peak District that we never managed to visit, Patrick. We were both born and raised in Buxton, but we never had transport to visit some of these more remote and very scenic places. Youlgreave looks a very pretty village, and the church is of brilliant architecture. We can understand how you love Lathkill Dale so much, as well as Dovedale. The limestone outcrops and the caves blend in well with the surrounding countryside, and the river appears to be quite wide in places. A most relaxing video, and very well produced, Patrick. Many thanks.

Youlgreave and Lathkill Dale are in easy reach of Bakewell if you should ever find yourselves there again, but yes it is indeed a lovely area. I did actually go inside the church at Youlgreave and took some shots, but in the end I didn't use the footage in the final edit as I had shot so much stuff this particular day, there was a great deal I had to cut out sadly. I hope to return to Youlgreave another time to do a shorter walk so that I can feature the village in more detail. As always thanks Frank and Lee for watching 👍

Ah, Conksbury. Not to be mistaken for Congresbury! ;-) I have many memories of my own from walking around these areas a few years ago. The river bed through Lathkill Dale was bone-dry in places (although this was August). Hope your new year's started well, Patrick. Looking out for your next and all the best.

Hi Olly, indeed very different to Congresbury! 😂 Of course you've visited Lathkill Dale yourself haven't you and did your own video there. It's always interesting as it can be bone-dry one day, then the next the water flows furiously. It's been a bit of an anticlimatic start to the New Year really - I always feel like that after Christmas is over! 🙂 At least the days are starting to get longer again now anyway. Hope yours is going well too Olly. Thanks for watching and have a great week 👍

Although I've walked in Youlgreave area I don't think I stayed at it's YHA. Alport looks like a nice location with the lovely shots in your film. I have never heard of Lathkill Dale though with varied features such as caves and mines. I love the music you composed with changes of keys and chords between major to minor. Very soothing to hear.

Nice to know you've walked around the Youlgreave area Shanita. Alport is a very quiet hamlet on the main road, but it's lovely where the Rivers Lathkill and Bradford meet and you can see all those little weirs. Lathkill Dale is also very close to Bakewell so an easy walk from there if you were ever to find yourselves this way. Thanks for your compliments on the music, I'm pretty pleased with this particular score too, and I've recorded variations of this theme for my following films. Hope New Year has started well for you Shanita, all the best to you and Michael for 2022 👍

Great to see the YHA make its way into the walk again patrick. All I can say is you've lived my friend. I smiled a number of times in this one - it's the character doing the tour. I must agree a fabulous Dale. I was wandering what a Dale means. Have you any ideas where the word comes from? Yes, what with the caves, stone bridges and pubs with views in addition it pretty much has it all. Thanks Patrick. Take care out there. Mark
@solitaryrambler2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark, always great to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed the stories to be told in this one, I always love to talk about the days gone by. I gather a Dale is just the Derbyshire word for valley, but it’s interesting to note that most of the dales in Derbyshire are separate words, e.g. Lathkill Dale, Bradford Dale, Monsal Dale, etc., but in Yorkshire the dales are one word, e.g. Wensleydale, Wharfedale, Swaledale, etc., so these must be local meanings I guess. Pleased you enjoyed Lathkill Dale Mark, it’s got a lot to offer as you saw. Take care out there and all the best to you 👍
@WyeExplorer2 жыл бұрын
@@solitaryrambler A pleasure as always Patrick. I found this one especially leisurely in a very good way. I find language fascinating. Thanks for your explanation and observation. I just made a quick look and found this: The word dale comes from the Old English[1] word dael, from which the word "dell" is also derived. It is also related to Old Norse word dalr (and the modern Icelandic word dalur), which may perhaps have influenced its survival in northern England. The Germanic origin is assumed to be *dala-. And dal - in various combinations is common in place names in Norway. Thanks Patrick - I've learned something new. Happy to share it. I will take care. You to.
@solitaryrambler2 жыл бұрын
Nice one Mark, thanks for looking that up. It is great where these words originate from the Old Norse, come across that a lot during my research before now espcially for names of towns and villages. All the best 👍
