Our neighborhood was akin to a war zone and most of the canines I know had a difficult time. The end of the USA draft and the Vietnam War both ended in 1973 and with it a better first hand understanding of military conflict as a personal experience. My uncle who was involved in D-Day June 6 1944 and while everyone in the family was proud of that milestone; he never talked about it nor brought it up ever. In 1989 on my last visit to NYC we talked privately about it and he still had demons from his experience he never did talk about before. As the 80 year anniversary of D-Day passed non of my family including my uncles children were still unaware of what he has told me that day in 1989. It is tragic that a sense of War that seems to have been better understood when Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey was studied. I enjoyed Lamont Van Hook's rendition of the Jimmy Webb's song; very well done Lamont. 👍

I agree that the ridiculous behavior with the illegal fireworks (and the misuse of the "legal" ones) has to stem from oblivious overprivilege and cluelessness. I have lived through a number of attempted coups (elsewhere) and even a few minutes of a fraction of what we were subjected to last night-- and much further off into the distance-- was enough to fill us all with anxiety over what might be coming. If freedom isn't free, I don't think that morons using illegal fireworks irresponsibly are likely to be in the lead when it comes to saving it.

@@artemisXsidecrossWhenever I hear fireworks especially the ones that sound like military hardware l think of the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam war that gets depicted in some movies and described in some books. Younger days fireworks were legal and seemed better controlled especially because of cost whereas nowadays with credit cards and disposable money the ones who get the illegal fireworks have no thought for anything else except themselves. Chinese New Year is incredibly loud here especially in a nearby shopping centre where the custom seems to be one of setting everything on fire with the most decibels possible. My parents grew up in England and I remember some of the stories. Sadly the anniversary of DDay seemed limited in its remembrance and as the world spirals downwards l sometimes wonder if what people gave up for our freedoms will one day mean absolutely nothing. As we say here every Anzac Day and every Remembrance Day..Lest we forget.☮️☮️

@@steven_scattergood Steven I totally agree about what ‘lest we forget’, but my concern is of what is exactly the memory. Propaganda is always about remolding what had happened to fit a set point of opinion or narrative. My uncle for example was a hero to my family for his participation in D Day and yet his own experience did not fit the family’s narrative nor the national acclaim. If you ever have seen the film Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa, from a story written by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, the ideal of truth is uncertain and it is from this understanding that have to navigate our direction.

We were able to hear the vocal and keyboard work on this one (🎹 too, very impressive!!!) and it sounds terrific! This is such a great song and this is a great rendition. Well, good effort by Lamont.. However, Glen Campbell, with the great "Wrecking Crew" backing him on the original recording "owns" Witchita Lineman. None better, ever. (for those who aren't hip to the W.C. some of the players were Carol Kaye, Hal Blaine, Don Randi, Tommy Tedesco, Ray Pohlman, et al, including Al De Lory, who did the marvelous orchestral arrangements on the recording. These musicians were the top pick of musicians to be used in studios).

I love the glamour of touring, especially as a supprt act! There's nothing better than getting changed in a toilet, having to rush your soundcheck, eating from service stations etc etc. Still, like you say, once you're on stage, you forget about all of that.

greetings Lee, recording engineer, Fred Baugher, here. I was recently watching a video of you in concert with Lyle Lovett. Do you find it challenging to keep time without a drummer seated next to you on stage? Are you playing to a click in those situations? Thank you for your time.

We never use click. When working without drums the time can float a bit but I have spent my life being a pocket player and can pretty much hold the time down. I listen to the artist and respond to them though for they might want to reinterpret things a bit and it is up to me to let them go or hold them to the tempo. A bit different every time. But my life is a whole lot easier when the drummer is there.
