I read Goodbye, I Love you 40 years ago; it changed my life for the better and put me on the path to happiness. I am eternally thankful to Carol Lynn for her courage in telling her and Gerald's story.

When I was a young mother, our Bishop gave out copies of Carol Lynn Pearson's "Model Mormon Mother" book of cartoons to every mother in the ward on Mother's Day. I treasured it and began looking for more of her writing. When Goodbye, I Love You came out I was so moved by reading it. It was so honest and real. I've been out of the church for a long time now but the impact of Carol Lynn's work has never left me.

She puts words to how I feel, more and more. It's my business to know others know of the pain that is being caused to us.

Sexuality isn’t a choice, but wasted most of my miserable life hiding it. Wonderful that now, young people are more often, accepting of themselves and not allowing others to consider them defective. No doubt, some suicides have been prevented by the current educated climate. The torment that reading the Bible gave me, and the condemnation I felt from it and “Christians” and others added to the nightmare of my “gift” of life. I’ll look for the books that Mrs. Pearson wrote, she is an excellent and secure communicator.

Rkeller…while your life is a gift to you; please know your life is a gift to others. A very good friend (a gay pastor) shared with me many times-no where in the Bible does it tell us it is not okay to be gay…you are ‘ok’ being who you are!

Thanks for an excellent and inciteful interview. I am a gay may who married my wife in love and hope in 1969. After my wife's conversion to Mormonism and 2 children our 11 year marriage crumbled. It was not until 25 years later, after raising my children alone, that I was able to come out to myself and my children, and eventually my ex-wife. I was then 50 years old. I have remained friends with my ex-wife. I have finally accepted who I am. I have now been in a committed gay relationship for almost 24 years. I was fortunate to find a sweet, loving partner at the age of 55 years. I was hard but I am finally at peace with myself, my children, and my ex-wife.

So eloquently and lovingly presented, coming from the heart. Thank you both. When we are in the right place expressing who we truly are wonderful things happen. This has touched my heart.

Thanks for this interview. I read almost all of Carol Lynn’s books. I love the poem “the gardener” and I really learned from I love you goodbye. I was in nursing school in SF when I read it and it helped my understanding of those different from myself. Very strong and courageous woman. Thank you Carol Lynn. I love you. I nor my husband (RIP) have had the pull of homosexuality. Other struggles that were also very very hard though.

She didn't just pave the way for LDS people; the rest of us who had the fortune to discover Good-bye, I Love You benefited from it.

It’s always good to hear from her. I was in a mixed-orientation marriage for 11 years. We had three children. There is so much pain that came from it, but hearing another similar story helps to not feel alone in the experience and to understand how to move forward with grace and dignity.

I read "Goodbye..." in 1986...just 2 years after my own marriage of 8 years ended after I realized...would believe...this "difference" I felt was gay.

I hate that we never talk about the ones who unknowingly married into this situation and who suffered lifetime consequences to my agency being stolen. It's a group who is also under-represented

I bought all of her books and enjoyed them. She spoke in my stake. Much later I met her at a book club sponsored by someone in my ward. I was able to speak with her, and she gave me a video in which she was featured. She has such a great gift.
