Glad Shawn highlighted Shadowdark! Not sure exactly when it “launched” either, but it really seems to be growing a community of players and creators that is just as robust, so if not more so, than the better known ~D&D killers~

Congrats on an amazing year! Watch it religiously every week! The best RPG podcast!

I think the most-frequent guest host is actually Dante - every time we have a canned episode, Dante is there in chat on the premiere on Monday nights, herding the chatcats and having a great time! I can't believe he found all of the actual quote clips that Dael wrote down!

That was such a sweet moment when Shawn was talking about how much he approved of the adventure James had written, love to see it.

I started watching the Eldritch Lorecast a couple months ago and I am wildly enjoying this podcast as a Dungeon Master. Game Designer and person making a tabletop RPG I think this podcast has made me remarkably better so I thank you all very much for the great vods this year and I hope to see a lot more of them next year... It was the one about the new ranger that's when I started

29:07 My favorite example of kinda-sorta Ghibli-esque TTRPG is Cloud Empress, a hack of Mothership. It's not My Neighbor Totoro Ghibli, it's Nausicaa Ghibli.

I first watched the podcast at the tail end of last year, because I wanted to know should I back Draw Steel or not, I was like “ooh, I know Dael, I trust her, and that guy from the necromancy video that my DM watches I think”, then KZbin recommended me another DS episode, then one unrelated, and then it started to recommend me a new episode every week, and I think I haven’t missed a single one since March. Maybe I should subscribe at this point.

Re: most frequent guest -- I thought, "It has to be Teos." Then Ben announced the tie with Adam and I watched all of you blank on who it could be! Teos is almost an extension of you, the core four. LOL Nice retrospective on the year in gaming. Thank you everyone!

31:04 D&D LEGO set is awesome, I bought it for myself around my birthday and met up with some friends to build it. So many hidden elements and little secrets! Very fun to build, and the dragon model is huge, beautiful and I'm 100% putting it on the table whenever my players meet an ancient red dragon.

22:14 Slugblaster has been getting a lot of love online recently, it does look very very fun. My two personal favorites from this year are the full release of Mothership 1e and Ironsworn Sundered Isles.

The #1 End-of-Year Tabletop RPG podcast Awards Ceremony in all the Realms. Nice Red Carpet styling, you all. It was a little odd for the hosts to play themselves off, but a lot of fun nonetheless. Call no Shawn creditable until an entire year has passed, I guess. Thank you all for another fun year covering this hobby in the way that you do! I hope you and all the other listeners have a wonderful New Year and enjoy your holiday season.

For a second I thought James was calling Bluesky a new *hut* for TTRPG design socializing, not a new hub. After James' self-professed sloppy pitch for Slugblaster, I highly recommend the Quinns Quest review of the game. Also, I think you could technically make the case for Draw Steel! being eligible for the 2024 Dragon's Hoard Award since in the past couple of days, Patrons got a "Playtest packet" that is basically the entire game minus art and some of the flavor text. Man, since we brought up Dungeon Meshi, a very late nominee for the Dragon's Hoard Award. I haven't gotten my hands on it, but it looks gorgeous, is fairly well-reviewed, has some clever mechanics, and its designer has been a delightful follow, so I gotta add His Majesty the Worm to the list (I'm pretty sure it's a 2024 release). If you want to do some old-school dungeon-crawling with a heavy mechanical focus on relationships between party-members and camp scenes, and find the idea of using a shared Tarot deck for RNG, His Majesty the Worm should be on your list.

Best TTRPG Release 0f 2024: It's got to be ToV for me. I know for some it's not different enogh for WotC D&D, But I love playing a 5e game that's not Hasbro (A5E is a close second), and at the same time tightening up a few loose threads.

Most Anticipated TTRPG for me has to be _DC20_ . Still in early-ish development with the beta with the subclasses arriving soon but, so far, that system feels the most elegantly designed from the upcoming releases. 👍 I love the grassroots support for this game that comes from a much "smaller name" compared to the long established Matt Colville or the Critical Role titans & their huge following. :)

The emergence and popularity of Mothership 1E is the most exciting thing happening in TTRPG industry in 2024. What a great game. Looking for a non-5e game for your group to try... Mothership 1e is the answer. Tuesday Knight Games has created a game that is simple to learn, easy to run, they have created maybe the best "GM" resource, low cost, and Mothership has an excited and energetic 3rd party community generating all kinds of new and fresh content to use at the table.

Calmer, perhaps not. I think most of us are just disenganged from it. The community is a bit burnt out from WoTC, 2 (3) years of mistakes and community assaults and all the discussion around it is exhausting. LoA announced they were updating their Crooked Moon book to 2024 and releasing a free pdf of the 2014 book instead. There was a very quick push back from the community since they backed based on the book being 5e 2014. Crooked Moon said both options would be available instead pretty quickly. Thanks be to them.

10:52 yes, things seem calmer, but I think it's because I pressed "don't recommend channel" and "not interested" on enough videos, and blocked enough Bsky accounts that the Outrage Farmers don't reach me. Like James said - not engaging is the way to go.
