Dear Robert, I really liked your video about this magnet driven displacer Stirling engine! Thanks to your kind words! :) It's not pretty new as an idea to use magnetism to lift up the displacer. Almost 10 years ago I saw a patent from a Chinese LTD Stirling where they used the magnet as lifter. I'm not pretty sure they was the first or not because I saw lot of magnetic LTD Stirlings, homemade and manufactured versions, cranked and free piston versions too. On the other hands what I've never seen that is a free piston HTD version two in one as yours. But I'm not the man, who knows everything about this type of unit or seen every type of engines, just a big fan of hot air engines. The main thing that I wrote you, It has a speed limitation that means power limitation too, because the frequency is limited when we use gravitation to moves the displacer back to the bottom. Some springy part could help a lot to increase the speed,but all knocking noise means mechanical losses usually. Tricky to make one without physical connection between the displacer and the power piston also you should put some spring on the top of the displacer. Anyway your Stirling unit is pretty rare and unique actually simple enough to try to build for every Tin Can Stirling hobbyist! ;) BLADE

About 15 years ago, some australians invented a way to print solar panels. Printer cartridges can be refilled by injecting the ink. What if we fill them with solar panel chemicals then when we print, we select the exact hexidecimal color that activates one of the 3 color cartridges or the black one to print circuits for solar panels? The one thing needed is the conductive ink, there is a way to grind up charcoal in a blender then extract it off the top after it settles to get conductive carbon ink that I noticed. Researching the other chemicals I have seen everything from toothpaste to other weird things being used lol. I don't think it would be that difficult so long as the printer heads dont clog up and it would get the ball rolling for everyone else to experiment with improving the solar panels I notice you have some improvements. I would like to say maybe if you got hologram paper of some sort and painted it with the flourescent ink a certain way it could improve the efficiency if you layed it on top of a printed panel. Do you think this is a great project that could help the world? I have asked defcon and andreas speiss and no one really replies helpfully but you think so much like I do that I think maybe you would like the idea. Also, if you were to do this, make sure you use an older printer that doesnt have barcodes on the ink cartridges because the companies limit whether you can refill them now using those. One more thing If you take a tin can then take two bottoms of coke cans and cut them off then shove them together, it fits perfectly into the tin can for a pison.

@McRootbeer2 жыл бұрын
3 ideas for improvement: 1. put a piece of carbon felt on the ends of the displacer to dampen the noise. 2. If the wire wool is acting as a regenerator, then cutting holes in the plates that hold the regen together to allow more airflow will improve performance as a regenerator but may reduce effectiveness as a displacer. (maybe like a turbo in a combustion engine?) 3. replace the magnet with a solenoid or magnetically assisted solenoid to allow for precise control of engine timing with pulsed power input. (like electronic ignition timing in a combustion engine)
@McRootbeer2 жыл бұрын
@@tomh2618 I'm saying that replacing the magnet with an electromagnet enables you to control the movement of the displacer (and by extension the volume of air/working gas) by pulsing the electromagnet on and off. Controlling the position of the displacer controls which side (hot or cold) the working fluid is at, and by controlling when the displacer changes position you control the dwell time when the working fluid is allowed to take in energy (heat up in the hot side) and expel energy (cool down in the cold side).

Thats a really cool idea! Generally this setup must waste quite a bit of energy just because dropping the displacer with each cycle nullifies the potentional energy it has... BUT there might be two ways to approach the problem - either make it lighter to waste less energy or make it heavier and attach it to a crankshaft mechanism (to act as a flywheel) sticking out of the bottom of the can.
@pip1973nztok2 жыл бұрын
Go even simpler, change the counter to magnets and collect the energy with a coil. just need to glue a non magnetic spacer between the balloon fixpoint and the stronger magnet. Remember waste heat is everywhere to power this. This invention is more about ease of building.

For anyone interested in springs at the top of the diagram: 1. The spring loded toilet paper rod seems to be a solution. 2. It's plastic with a spring in it. 3. Will stop the wabbling, and give a push back if attached To the top of the magnets, in a linear generator. 4. The smaller diameter plastic tube is all plastic ( no metal spring). Spring housed in the larger diameter outer tube. 5. Travel is about a respectable 2 inches/ 5cm. 6. I sprayed graphite lock fluid on it to reduce friction. 7. One could remove the spring entirely from the tube and glue it to the top of the magnet stack to reduce friction and wobble, and also to an overhead brace bar. 8. Separately: a straight rod glued to the top of the magnetic stack attached to a bow spring from a hacksaw Blade will stop the wobble and give a return Force. SUMMARY: This setup would force air down giving greater travel of the diaphragm. Air to a plastic tube that could drive a second tin can diagram ( cooling side) generator. Thereby doubling electrical output. Hope this helps.
