I sail a Brewer designed Morgan 382. After he sold boats for Cuthbertson, he worked in the design office of Bill Luders, then struck out on his own in Maine. He moved to Washington and then British Columbia. He was a fine designer and a generous man. With his death, we lost one of the last remaining yacht designers who learned their craft during the high point of American Yacht design under the CCA rule. But he was never bound by the rules and most of his later designs are fine examples of solid, well-rounded cruising sailboats.

Nice video, I own a 1999 Nimble Wanderer motorsailer. Lived aboard this boat since 2015 after moving up from my 1998 Nimble Kodiak. I love having a pilothouse, especially if the weather turns nasty. My only issue is they tend to pound into the waves due to the flatish bow but the draft of 2'10" means I can run and hide in places others can't reach. That and having the mast on a hinge means it's fairly easy to drop the main mast.I have a 75 hp Yanmar turbodiesel in mine. Runs all day long at about 1 gal/hour. Carries 72 gals total and I would normally run 4-5 days at a time before needing to refuel. Very few of these were built and I'm so glad I own one.

I've owned two International Folkboats. The first one I owned had an inboard diesel. Between the drips from the access hatch in the cockpit floor and the stuffing box, there was always water in the bilge. The second one, which I presently own, is the outboard motor version. There is no hatch in the cockpit floor and, of course, no stuffing box. The bilge is always dry.

In Essex mass back in the 1600,1800 they had similar style boats known as pinky schooners meaning the back looked like they were pinched so I guess the Dutch called them pinky and there is 2replicated ones built in Essex by a local Essex boat builder and he skippers one of them what a treat nice ride back in time

Capt. Q, Once upon a time I was lucky enough to own a little Nimble 24. It always managed to receive admiring glances with its emerald green hull and tan bark sails. It had a stub keel with a centerboard which made beaching it easy. Many a weekend was spent exploring Lake Mead in Nevada. I sold it about a decade ago. Thanks for bringing back some memories of that stout little yawl.

My sole kneejerk criticism of that boat is what seems like a really awkward placement of that electrical switch panel directly under companionway at the top stair shown at about 15:45. To my inexpert eye it just seems SO likely to get both doused and kicked to pieces being right there, neither of which seems exactly desirable for one's "electrickery". But it is a venerable old craft, so maybe it just hasn't been an issue? I don't know how long it'd weather my own shambling size 11½ docksiders without incident though.

I owned a Hake Seward 24 with a shoal draft “fin” keel. It did not work. You could not beat to weather and make headway with wind over 5 to 7 knots.. The newer versions now have a keel/ centerboard similar to this boat.

Being in Colorado, this boat would be one of the largest on Dillion Reservoir in that mountain community. (I know you think its small). She would be a thing of beauty here! But is sailing popular in Colorado and at Dillion Reservoir? Yes, and so much so, there is a two year wait list to get a slip according to the marina when I checked this past summer. Thanks for showing us what would be a very large boat here. If only I could.

Up on the bow, you found a “deck wash” hose; I would have thought that would be for washing down the anchor chain before it goes into the anchor locker/forpeak….keep the smell down

Another lesson in sailboats. Did you happen to notice the peeling above where your feet were in the V-berth? Seems there was a leak of some kind that also stained the carpet on the ceiling. You are correct about the wiring above the engine. That would be a mess to sort out. Happy Trails

Great looking boat from one of our local Vancouver Naval Architects Ted Brewer. He designed some nice offshore boats in the 40'+ range as well. I didn't realize he worked with George Cuthbertson back east. We owned a few C&Cs in the 80s and really enjoyed sailing them. Lived aboard the 32 footer for four years. 😊😁 Love your channel & reviews. I've got a little 20 foot Vivacity twin keeler now that's a retirement project / get out of the house and have a beer 🍺 & dream about getting her floating soon. At 72, we'll see how that goes. 😊

@12.19: The stuffing box is PSS and that is absolutely tight, despite it's water lubricated. The best brand you can find. But the cable hanging loose above the Centaflex is bothering me! The stove is just like Origo, a Swedish brand stove, a little slow to cook on but on such a boat you have all the time! The electrical wiring is quite impressive! Awesome video! Thank's!

You do find the most interesting boats out there. Price wise this is a steal. The condition looks like a sailaway and with cousins like CnC and Mirage you know it will be fast. Matter of personal taste but for me the composting B52 would have to go but not a big deal. Clean up the spaghetti wiring and you can hold your head high on this one. Gotta agree with you Captain Q.

The 'double ender' hulls are mostly referred to in Europe by their Norwegian name of 'Snekke' hull...... I sailed a few in Norway and the UK and Channel Islands. They were originally adopted in Norway and other parts of Scandinavia in the design of workboats due to their exceptional sea keeping qualities. The Snekke hull became very popular throughout Europe and is synonymous with seaworthiness and of course we saw the world famous Snekke hull of the 32 foot 'Suhali' which Sir Robin Knox-Johnston sailed in the first non-stop solo circumnavigation of the world in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race back in the 60s... The old Norwegian yacht builders I worked for as a youngster had a 28 foot and 33 foot Snekke design which I loved sailing and they also had a few smaller motor boats with Snekke hull. As for the 'Emily Hope', she's nicer than a 'cute boat'.... she's a very well thought out design and would make a lovely family coastal cruiser for weekends and holidays afloat exploring shallow creeks and going where few 30 footers could go..... @@jlewis4587 In my case it is a 20 liter jerrycan. No mishaps so far:-). I admit that would be a nightmare. But the advantages are great. You can still use it on the hard, very little parts that can go wrong, and you are never exposed to smell more than just human toilet use. Pump out is horrible, pump out mishaps even worse, and a leaking holdingtank.....so gross. And it is not a question if it will happen, but when it will happen:-)

Those "new" alcohol stoves have been arounds for several decades, and were discontinued a couple of years ago by Dometic. I had to go searching in a used boat boat parts store to find a 2-burner no oven version to install in my boat. I'm still not sure why Dometic discontinued the Origo line of alcohol stoves as many old salts seem to swear by them.

One non debatable benefit of the canoe stern is if you're tied up alongside a dock and the wind comes up behind you, the waves won't slam into a wide flat stern and push the boat around. Another possibly debatable benefit is that when sleeping onboard, the waves won't be slapping against a wide flat stern and making noise. I think usually the waves hit slab aft at the back of your boat are hitting the counter, and not the stern most of the time, and even a canoe. Stern has got some counter to it, as it sweeps up from underwater to reform the V at the transom. But I think I would consider that way down the list of reasons to go that way or not. But thanks for your thoughts Mark I love to hear from you guys no matter what and who knows maybe we should go test canoe canoe stern next time🤗

Captain Q, This is very much the other end of the spectrum from the Cortin Steel boat you just showed us however it’s a better size for me and I can get more sailing time rather than maintenance. I’m almost 70yrs and squaring away the wiring mess over the motor is about as much of a problem as I want to deal with. Thanks for the video and the work that you and Ran dee do for us. 👍
