you can use a specific type of resistor but then u cant control the contrast,1k to 10k is recommended

ok, connect 5v of arduino with pin 15 (pin A) and GND of arduino with pin 16 (pin k) and tell me if the led light is turning ON.

There maybe a problem with soldering. I also faced the same problem so i soldered it again, but in my case the led was turning ON but there was no display.
