Lions rule the African savanna in The Lion King, which welcomes Donald Glover (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story) as future king Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Dreamgirls, Lemonade visual album) as Simba’s friend-turned-love interest Nala, and James Earl Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Field of Dreams) as Simba’s wise and loving father, Mufasa, reprising his iconic performance from Disney’s 1994 animated classic. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Twelve Years a Slave, Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange) was called on to portray Simba’s villainous uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard (Juanita, Marvel’s Luke Cage) portrays Simba’s no-nonsense mother, Sarabi. JD McCrary (OWN’s Tyler Perry’s The Paynes, Apple’s Vital Signs) fills the shoes of Young Simba, a confident cub who can’t wait to be king, and Shahadi Wright Joseph (NBC’s Hairspray Live, Broadway’s The Lion King) brings tough cub Young Nala to life.
Every kingdom comes with a trustworthy advisor or two. John Kani (Coriolanus, Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War) was cast as the wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver (HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa’s loyal confidant. When Simba goes into exile, he relies on two newfound friends-Seth Rogen (Sausage Party, Neighbors) lends his comedic chops to naïve warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, FX’s American Horror Story) joins the cast as know-it-all meerkat Timon.
From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother-and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa.

@Siranyt
@Siranyt 4 жыл бұрын
@@OzzyZMusic Scar would have never killed Sarafina, or else he would have totally alienated Sarabi. The new version makes it very clear what his intentions are towards her. Which is imho another great addition in the new version and makes Scar's motivation much more believable than just being the bad uncle. Plus, Nala is gone what, one or two days? I doubt Scar will have noticed and even then Sarafina or Sarabi could have covered for her for the little while she was gone. Even if Scar didn't believe them, I doubt he'd have given it another thought since he (and Shenzi) believed Simba dead, so what could one runaway lioness do anyway
@OzzyZMusic
@OzzyZMusic 4 жыл бұрын
@@Siranyt Scar has had clear motivations from the beginning, he always wanted to be king and when mufasa defeated him in combat he nurtured a hatred. It was only when he saw that the line of succession would fall on some brat that he made his move. From the very beginning he knew the lionesses did not want him as king so yes he would keep a very close eye on them to the point where he already sleeps with one eye open. Hence why he sensed that someone was leaving pride rock. Someone as calculating as him would have had to make an example or sent a search party out.
@Siranyt
@Siranyt 4 жыл бұрын
@@OzzyZMusic As I said we don't know how he would have reacted, we can only guess. With Scar being so calculating as you say he never would have risked alienating the lionesses, as he has clear intentions with Sarabi. Especially with Nala being gone one or two days max this seems extreme. I don't think him having a light sleep is proof that he would have killed someone, just that he is rightfully paranoid. Same with sending out a search party after one day or two. The hyenas are hunting, so who would he send, he couldn't send the lionesses. Same with the original as it is never stated on film how Nala's disappearance is covered by the others. I don't see a problem the new version introduced here: the same thing happens, just that we see more of it in the new version.

Another mistake they fixed is scar knocking out Zazu. In the original remake, Scar knocked out Zazu during Mufasa’s death and for some reason Zazu didn’t find that suspicious. So in the remake, they have Scar tell Zazu to get help instead of knocking him out.

The cartoon faces enabled them to actually express emotions.. From surprised, amused, malicious, confused to the end of all possibilities..In the case of cartoon Nala we even got "aroused" in there.. The realistic faces really put a lot of pressure on the Dub actors and there is still a disconnect. Lions pretty much have one resting face only. Along with a eyes closed rubbing on someone face (we interpret as affection) and a exposed teeth roar (we interpret as dominance/aggression). Thats it. And a big problem in making the Lion King "realistic". You've got some great people dubbing the characters and the characters cannot express their emotions cause Disney wanted them "real". Stop paying them for the remakes guys ^^ They should just grab an old Fairytale and make their own version of it. That does still work for the whole family as "Frozen" has proven.

King Ivar but he said that in the animated. When he declines and walks away, mufassa asks what he’s gonna do with him, and Zazu replies “he’d make a great throw rug (because of the connection to the lion in Hercules).” That wasn’t in this film because there wouldn’t be any connection, and why would they know what a throw rug is? So they added more and took a lot away which made the movie so much better.

Most of these aren't really mistakes, maybe inaccuracies. For example, Rafiki could be using both of his hands equally well, in TLK universe ant eaters live in the same place as lions... One real mistake is Zazu opening his mouth with nothing coming out. Nevertheless, the video is a nice compilation of said inaccuracies and information about how real animals would behave. However, I really don't agree with #12 being more feasible method of Rafiki discovering SImba, nor with the statement that the scene really fits with the circle of life theme. In 1994, Simba's scent is carried by the wind and is not spoiled by anything. So when Rafiki catches the leaves, it's not too unbelievable that he can smell and remember the scent of Simba. But in 2019, Simba's scent has been mixed with water, bird saliva, leaves, giraffe poop and dirt and yet Rafiki recognizes it as coming from Simba even faster than in the original. It is definitely less feasible than the other version. Also, when you really think about it, this is not a good representation of circle of life because all animals' involvement in this is accidental. The point of circle of life is that everything in it has its necessary place and role in keeping the life balance, but in the hair travel part, none of the animals actually needed to be there. The hair could have reached Rafiki without one animal being involved.

Nina P Rafiki’s hands definitely aren’t a mistake. Unless anyone that can use more than one hand is a mistake. Both hands can hold things and both hands can rub a finger across something. Plus if he’s dipping with his left hand, then he’s holding the fruit half in his right. Just like he holds his staff in his right. I think there desperate to make the remake look good.

It's a cash grab because they know people who loved the original will come watch this new one. And seriously, the faces aren't as expressive as the original. You can mock it all you want, but it's just objective fact. It's a fucking no brainer that an animated face will be more expressive and easier to see the emotions than realistic animal faces. It looks ridiculous.

in the 1994 version simba throws himself up onto the rock when scar told that he killed Mufasa but that would mean that Mufasa could have thrown himself up onto land and wouldn't be dead, (that would have changed the whole movie) but as to the 2019 version Simba grabs scars mane and scar was in pain so he had to walk backwards in the 1994 version scar wacked sarabi in the face when she told him of how a true king was but in 2019 version scar and sarabi fought each other when Sarabi got wacked in the face in the 1994 version she told scar that they had to leave pride rock and he said no so then she also said "if you were half the king Mufasa was then that's when he walked her in the face so she couldn't finish her sentence, but where as to the 2019 version she told scar that he was nothing compared to mufasa.

Yeah, there is a plot hole with "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?" The whole song takes place during the daytime. The nitpicking ruined the most memorable moments. They focus on insignificant lion behaviors. Well there are no rituals of holding up the newborn cub in real life. A lot of the animals and the size of the elephant skull are seen from Simba perspective as a cub, so yeah it would seem huge. And why did they feel the need to add extra dialog that was not needed. They also could have used the extra songs from the musical. They fit a lot better with the originals than the ones written for this crappy remake. I love Disney but they have been destroying the magic that they had built up.

No, this remake is not amazing. It's a hollow, vapid recreation that shamelessly exploits its source material while simultaneously being embarrassed by it. See the abortion that is "Be Prepared". Why on Earth would you make a Lion King movie and not put the full Be Prepared in it? Because you're embarrassed to be making a musical. The songs are the stars of this show, and the guy in charge of everything is Jon Favreau, a man who has about as much rhythm as the state of Utah.

I noticed several changes that the remake made: 1. In the original, I never understood why Scar waited so long to try to overthrow Mufasa. Between his hyena companions and his lust for the throne, it seems he should've made an attempt long before Simba was born. The remake explains that Scar did indeed make an attempt to overthrow Mufasa, and it also implies that that attempt was how he got a scar over his left eye. It also goes on to show that Scar did not form an alliance with the hyenas until just before they schemed to overthrow Mufasa, explaining why it wasn't done prior. 2. Following up on my previous thought regarding Scar's eye, a fan theory I've seen people discuss is that Scar is not actually his name, but rather a nickname that he became stuck with after his eye injury. If Mufasa did in fact give him that Scar, he very well also gave him that nickname as a form of additional punishment. They never confirm this, but it does elaborate on the fan theory a bit. 3. In the original film, after Scar takes over Pride Rock, he imprisons Zazu in a cage made of a dead animal's ribcage. Later, Scar jokingly suggests that the hyenas eat Zazu when they complain about their being no food. This of course begs the question, if the hyenas have over-hunted to the point that the Pride Lands are dying and both the hyenas and lions are starving, why haven't they eaten Zazu yet? 4. Following up my previous thought, regarding Zazu's prison, you can clearly tell that Zazu can easily slip through the bones of his prison and escape, and yet he doesn't. This begs the question, why is Zazu still there? This was most likely an animation goof that the remake corrects by instead having Zazu be an independent spy of sorts due to his loyalty to the royal family. This change also corrects the question of why Zazu wasn't eaten when there was no food. 5. While still on the topic of Zazu, in the original film, when Zazu begins to panic about the stampede, even going as far as mentioning goin to get help, Scar strikes him, presumably knocking him unconscious in the process. This begs the question of whether or not Zazu remembers that happening. If he does, why has he not mentioned or investigated it due to potential foul play? If he doesn't, why hasn't he investigated to fill the holes in his memory? Because the film never addresses this, it's left unclear. The remake however updates this by having Scar remove Zazu from the scene by suggesting he go get help. This both makes more sense, and is a clever callback to Zazu's suggestion in the animated film. 6. In the animated film, just before the song, "I Just Can't Wait To Be King", Simba and Nala begin discussing how they're going to ditch Zazu so they can go explore the Elephant Graveyard. What follows is the earlier-mentioned song sequence, which includes a rhino sitting on top of Zazu as a result of the collapsing pyramid of animals. Immediately following that we see Simba exclaim to Nala, "alright, it worked", implying that the spontaneous animal pyramid was part of their plan, which is highly unlikely. The remake corrects this by instead having the cubs getting lost in the crowd of larger singing animals, which is a more realistic escape plan. 7. Additionally, after successfully ditching Zazu in the animated film, Simba declares himself as a genius, to which Nala retorts, "hey, genius, it was my idea". This comment doesn't make sense, as when you play the scene in which the cubs begin plotting, Simba is seen doing all of the talking just before Zazu interrupts them, meaning if the plan was thought-up by anybody, it's Simba. The remake corrects this by updating Nala's retort to, "you couldn't have done it without me". 8. In the animated film, when Simba is hanging off of Pride Rock above the fire, Scar begins to gloat, at which point he confesses to killing Mufasa by whispering the information into Simba's ear. This implies that everything he said prior to the confession was said aloud, meaning everything should have been heard by the lionesses. So when Scar says, "this is exactly the way your father looked before he died", while it isn't necessarily a confession, it is an odd comment to make given the context of the current situation. The remake addresses this by adding to Scar's gloating the line, "I saw the fear in his eyes", which Sarabi is quick to comment on when Simba accuses Scar of murdering Mufasa. 9. Additionally, after Scar whispers his confession into Simba's ear, Simba leaps up and pins Scar onto his back in a rage. This feat seems impossible as Simba was hanging by his front paws when Scar confessed to Mufasa's murder. The remake corrects this by having Simba bite Scar on the ear, allowing Simba to be hoisted back onto Pride Rock to confront Scar. 10. When Scar tells young Simba to run away from home after Mufasa's death, it begs the question of why Scar didn't just kill Simba right then and there while there were no witnesses. This has led some fans to theorize that this is because Scar can't be bothered to do it himself, therefore he has the hyenas do it for him, and/or because banishing Simba gives him layers of insurance, as he believes Simba will either get killed by the hyenas, die from the elements due to leaving the safety of the Pride Lands, or will be too riddled with guilt to ever think of coming back. The remake addresses this is a subtle, but overall clever update. When Scar addresses Simba, who was convinced that he killed his father, Scar addresses him in a somewhat aggressive tone, further adding onto Simba's belief that he is to blame. Additionally, when he tells Simba to run away, rather than suggest as a sign of mercy and understanding like in the animated film, in the remake, Scar demands that Simba runs away and never comes back, giving off the guise of someone angry at the murder of his brother, adding even more of a reason why Simba would most likely never return to Pride Rock. 11. One of the controversies regarding the original film was the topic of segregation, and how the film seemed to be in favor of it. While most fans can make educated guesses as to why the hyenas are outcasts, the film never explicitly says why. The remake corrects this by updating the ideologies of the Circle of Life, and introducing the concept of over-hunting in the dialogue. Because "a hyena's belly is never full", the film explains that the hyenas over-hunted in their lands, resulting in it becoming a barren wasteland. Additionally, Scar describes Mufasa as having "too much restraint when it comes to hunting", further driving this point. 12. In the original film, when Mufasa appears before Simba as a vision, Mufasa accuses Simba of forgetting who he is. While he does elaborate further by saying that Simba forgot Mufasa by forgetting himself, it's still an odd choice of wording as Simba only ended up where he was specifically because of the guilt he associates with his father's death. Additionally, when Simba cries out, "don't leave me", Mufasa initially ignores this outburst, and instead continues to repeat, "remember". This constant repetition, alongside a pep talk from Rafiki is what ultimately leads Simba to return home. The remake updates this a bit to make it a bit less clunky regarding Mufasa's input. The remake removes the idea of Simba forgetting about Mufasa, and instead replaces it with Mufasa reassuring Simba that he never stopped being his son. Additionally, when Simba begs his father not to leave, Mufasa replies that he never left him, reminding Simba of the lessons he taught him prior to his death. 13. In the original film, when Nala confronts Simba about refusing to return home, the two have an argument and Simba storms off, after indicating that he won't help dethrone Scar. However despite this, Nala still decides to stick around for some reason, only returning to Pride Rock, along with Timon and Pumbaa, once Rafiki tells her that he's on his way home. This is a bit odd behavior for Nala, as she was on a mission, and left the Pride Lands to find help, which Simba refused to do. Unless her intention was to try to convince Simba further once he had calmed down, one would think she would either return home, or continue her search for help. Since the film never addresses this, we never are given a definitive answer. The remake addresses this by having Nala make the decision to return home to try and fight Scar herself after her argument with Simba, driving home the sense of urgency in the matter. Because of this, the film also updates Simba's departure by having him inform Timon and Pumbaa, since Nala is not around to do so. As someone who was born in 1994, and therefore literally grew up alongside the original, I truly love both of these films. The original is my favorite animated Disney film, and the remake is full of clever updates and looks absolutely beautiful. So I naturally noticed all of these changes, as well as a few that you mentioned in your video (well done by the way).

Mandrills don't live in the savanna alongside lions, giraffes, etc. Mandrills only live in the tropical rain forest whereas baboons actually do live in the savanna. They should have made Rafiki a baboon instead of a mandrill in the 2019 movie. Also, mandrills were classified as part of the baboon family in the past, so even if he was supposed to be a mandrill, I guess he would have been called a baboon for that reason.
