Looks great! I have the same color car with the same wheels - my beloved 1997 E39 528ia in the USA. Currently clocking at 226k miles. I've owned it since 2001 and have done numerous facelift upgrades but striving to keep it stock looking. I do all the maintenance myself. Recently did the valve stem seal as the vehicle would emit smoke briefly upon cold start or after sitting for a prolonged period. The seals were completely gone. While in there, found the timing guides were deteriorating. Glad I discovered before the timing chain skipped a tooth!

Kon, actually you should not go there to maintain ur car, price was very high. Like rear brake pad 300++ was so expensive ,for valve cover gasket, outside BMW workshop only charge Rm200 using ori part and siap Pasang.for ignition coil 6pcs cost 1K!! Spark plug 6pcs Rm 3xx !! Really not worth because BMW ori part was not so expensive even siap pasang should not cost Rm 3K . I'm BMW E60 owner also buy 2nd car, engine oil normally I choose Mobil 5w-40 . Other is need take care your cooling system, because your mileage is over 148Km, due to Malaysia weather if the car meet traffic jam everyday it should be reduce your cooling sys life. Suggestion your replace kind of top hose, lower hose, themostart, expansion tank and must using BMW coolant. It should be more confident to be a daily car.

Should get the suspension and chassis components that are worn to replaced too. The other thing with all these older cars, should also look into changing the airbag modules, they are not as expensive as it used to be any longer. Whenever you have overseas trips it is a good time to go parts shopping, the times I went to Europe when I was restoring my former E24, while the rest went shopping I would look for places to buy car parts. Thankfully these days most things can be bought online.
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
Thought of the airbag modules, got 10 of them in this car. Yikes. But thanks for reminding me to check if my car kena the Takata airbag recall - it doesn't. Good point on buying parts abroad, though my overseas trip itineraries are usually quite packed.

Compare to my previous MC5 215/50/R17, well I must say it gives me extra confidence, dry grip is really excellent but wet grip to me is poor especially running through shallow water on roads, handle aquaplanning is way below expectation. Skidded many times whening running around 90km/h only, 70km/h also will sometimes even feel like the tyre doesn't cut well with the waters.

off the tire topic, how is your BMW respond vs Waja respond compare both are aging condition? E39 really great chassis for me a miss for me is manual gear shift not available in local market.
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
I'm still getting used to the BMW and learning its behaviour. At present, I'll still drive the Waja faster and harder. I do have 10 years of familiarity with the Waja, so the way the car responds is almost instinctive to me. I'd say the Waja feels the more lively and more eager car to be driven hard. The BMW has a more relaxed character and does not take off from standstill as quickly due to its weight. Still, the E39 is already feeling like a very pleasant car, and I have quickly reached the stage where, Waja excepted, I find myself longing to drive the BMW whenever I'm behind the wheel of another car.

dear Kon.. congrats again on your e39 520i. I am new to BM's n I didn't know that your 520i is a 2.2L straight-6 engine. Since it is a straight-6 engine, was there a point that u might have gone for a 2.8L engine?(omitting the matter of road tax cost)
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
Road tax played a part in my consideration, but I was specific in narrowing my choice to newer units with the M54 engine. I was looking for a 2.5, but found this 2.2 in good shape, so took la.

@@KonWaiLuen dear Kon, tQ for kind reply(not many vloggers actually reply..) this reply is really appreciated. somewhere in one of your other videos, I mentioned that I was eyeing an e65(..730 maybe) but after deep soul searching, I am actually just looking for a BM with 2.8L engine, whichever series, in good condition that I can find ..hehe weird eh? K Kon take care, njoy njoy ur straight-6 baby.

If you're after a 2.8, the E39 528i are going for very attractive prices. 15k thereabouts

Why u don't take BBS LM... I saw it silver colour...
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
Thought of the BBS units too, but have always liked the Style 66 design.

I have the same rims, in the front I have 235/45/17 and rear 255/40/17
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
Yours is the more commonly available staggered size setup. I chose not to go for this configuration because the rear size is not so widely available. Whereabouts are you from?
@tariks61676 жыл бұрын
Kon Wai Luen Macedonia, yes 255 is old dimension kinda hard to find these tyres, but also 235 fits on the back ( not really good looking).

Which e39 engine variant is the most reliable and has most efficient fc?
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
Give me a few months, and I'll answer you for sure, but my initial research points to the M54 lah.
@aogoh6 жыл бұрын
If fc is a concern then bmw is not the car for you
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
That's true, but to be fair, BMWs are actually pretty fuel efficient.

Went for Conti this time. Bobby pukau me on the amazing performance of the MC6, so decided to give it a try. Plus, great deal from Lazada.

Can share the Lazada link for the tyres?
@KonWaiLuen6 жыл бұрын
Quite easy to find. Go Lazada and type the tyre brand and model at the search bar. Gives you several options.

Not yet. But plan to. ATF was last changed by previous owner in 2014. Car clocked only 18,000km since then.

Just be careful with Conti brands. I had bad experience and finally change to Michelin.
