@@marinamarkaki3247 There are many behaviors that come naturally to dogs that can't be trained out of them. If a dog gets diarrhea & can't get outside fast enough. Puppies as well as some dogs that are not puppies will chew on anything especially if it smells like their favorite person, if they miss that person. Same goes for peeing in their person's bed, which is actually a territory behavior that the dog might know is wrong yet it slips their mind when instinct takes over. Having obedience trained over 100 dogs, understanding their thinking, instincts, breed behaviors can explain a lot.

Many people believe that our pets can tell time as they know when someone is supposed to be coming home, so they watch through a window or wait at a door. Having studied & worked with many dogs, I can tell you that dogs can't necessarily tell time, not as humans do, anyway. Each human & other living beings have their own unique scent. As most people know, dogs have a sense of smell that is 1,000 to 10,000 stronger than a human, depending on the dog. In the place where a human lives, they leave their scent all over. On floors, walls, furniture, everywhere. When the person leaves for work or somewhere they go to then return home on a regular basis, as soon as the person leaves, their scent begins to fade. The persons scent begins to fade, the dog measures time by how much the scent has faded. When the scent reaches the same level of strength or weakness, right when the person comes home, the dog begins to know when the person is returning. Sometimes, an additional clue is the persons voice, footfalls before entering the home, jingling of keys, is also a clue.

As far as dogs knowing about when you are coming home (through the sound of your car or your bus), I’ve seen a video about how they use smell also to estimate when you will return home. The video said that after you leave and return a couple times, they note how much your scent has faded, and the next time it has faded that much, they begin anticipating your return. They tested this by placing some clothes in a plastic bag, and opening it much later. That dog was caught off guard when their owner returned. Interesting stuff!

And whenever my ex dropped off the kids back at my place, she would go say hi to him and then come to me and get in my lap looking at and keep looking at me as if to say "are you okay. Don't worry I'm here." My ex gave me a lot of anxiety for a long time due to some circumstances. Love my fluffer, as she has been the most gentle and calm presence in my life. She somehow isn't demanding about attention, and has made herself a watchful guardian of my children and I. She loves all little kids, and has tried to protect other kids from their own parents when we have people over. She doesn't like it when people wrestle or ruff house and she will try to break it up and bark at everyone involved...lol. she is a true Nanna dog...lol. she never had her own litter, but she would have made a great momma.

He knew he wasn't allowed on the furniture, but doggy logic said if I was between him and the couch, it didn't count - so I had an 80-pound lap dog, and both of us were happy. Down-side? He liked fishing in the guppy tank so much I had to give the whole thing away. I've missed him for the last 35 years.

So the couple times I tried to get on my computer an do work, my dog would NOT leave me alone and just kept pawing at me to get in bed with her. She knew I needed the rest to get better and that trying to work would just prolong my illness. I already knew almost all of this stuff.☺ I have four dogs, but myPitsky, Scooter, does amazing things. I slept and fell on a dog toy in October resulting in a broken thigh bone. Scooter corralled the other three dogs into the bedroom and kept them there until my husband could get home from work, even though there are two doors in and out of our bedroom. When I returned home from rehab, he would lay up against my leg to prop it up from Rolling sideways. Which he did without any asking or coaxing. When my husband and I are joking around we occasionally get a little loud and scooter will run in the room and jump up on my husband and not get down until I tell him it's okay. He has a special bark for one of our neighbors that he absolutely loves. When I'm on the phone with my best friend he will come over and make husky talking noises to her. If you ask him what he wants he will point to it with his nose. If he wants me to go to bed and I'm not in there he will make husky temper tantrum noises. He's amazing and I absolutely love him! I love all of my dogs!

I had a dog once that spent her days at my mom's daycare. She and my mom would watch up to five toddlers aged 10 to 30 month and once in a while mom would take all of them on a walk - the smaller kids in a hand pulled cart, the dog roaming free around them. Dog was as sweet as a pie to the kids but one day an old lady couldn't resist trying to reach for the kids, perhaps in these weird cheek pinches old ladies are so fond of. The lady always have had dogs so she first made contact to my dog, which went well. Dog enjoyed her touch, in a safe distance from the children. But as soon as the lady tried to coo the kids, my dog's hair bristled up and she gave a very clear, very final warning. With her 90 pounds you better take her seriously on that. My mom was a bit off at the side running after one of the agile kids so Dog felt very responsible and very protective of these seeemingly foreign kids that only visited our daycare for some days a week for about a year. Luckily the lady understood and backed off.

If your mom's dog was a herding breed, she would treat the toddler more-or-less like a flock to be watched over. Especially since that's probably how your mom treated them. I wouldn't be surprised if the dog went after one that ran off and gently brought the toddler back to the group.

Dogs knowing when their owners are coming home, by means of timing and car engine noises - AH, yes, but you haven't mentioned the proportion of dogs (and a few cats) who can foretell their owner's, or family member's, homecoming, AT WHICHEVER IRREGULAR TIME, through some sort of psychic link! This has been covered (if not "proven") in research and surveys with many dogs and their owners by British biologist Rupert Sheldrake. It's all in his famous book *Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home* - a great read! 👍 The phenomenon is also mentioned by the prolific late British author Colin Wilson, re a Scottish poet named M'Diarmid who, as a Communist, was always going to Russia, China, places like that, decades ago. His dog on his farm knew when he was returning from abroad, days before, usually before his wife did, sometimes even before he did, and used to go and lie at a certain gate and wait for him there for a couple of days. That, my friends, is an example of the wonderful powers of dogs!! 🙂🙂👍

Humans observe babies, but animals analyze them. It takes a great human to understand an infant in this manner.

Good video but they missed the point that dogs even sense when we come back at an odd, unexpected time. There's a very interesting study scientific study by R. Sheldrake " Dogs whose owners know when they come home" about it. Some dogs just sense when they owners are coming home at an odd time we'll before any vehicle could be heard. Very interesting!!!

I’ve witnessed so many examples of this behavior in dogs. When I was a toddler my parents had a German Shepherd/hound mix. My mom would give me a tidbit to give to the dog. He’d open his mouth wide and I’d stick my hand far back into his mouth. He would never bite down until he was sure my hand was out of his mouth. When I was a few years older we had a German Shorthaired Pointer. He liked to jump up and stand on the roof of his dog house. He didn’t like me hugging him and he’d manage to get away. But when I was crying about something I’d go out and have him get on his dog house. I’d put my arms around him and bury my face in his fur. He would continue to stand there and let me hug him as long as I was crying. There are so many stories I could tell. The 2 that impressed me the most were our Boston Terrier when we babysat my 20 month old nephew. The side door was directly across from the concrete stairs leading to the basement. The baby knew he wasn’t supposed to be over there. The dog knew he wasn’t supposed to be over there too so she positioned herself between the baby and the stairs to protect him. And there are more but only one more right now. I’m diabetic and I was taking a nap. My chiweenie was on the bed with me and he came over and started licking my hand to wake me up. As soon as I was fully awake I could tell that my blood sugar was too low. I tested it and it was too low. My dog knew that and that’s why he woke me up.
