Excellent video and amazing car. I hope you keep it for a very long time, even as you get into other cars. This is a special car, and there aren't too many of these left.

Nice to see another rev 5 being used as a daily. Mines a year 2000 with 305k miles on the original engine that I’ve also owned since 2020. Can’t say Toyota isn’t reliable and it’s such a fun car

Got a 207k mile rev 4 myself. Bought it with 201k miles thinking the engine would go soon and just engine swap it, doesn't show any signs of going anytime soon, doesn't even burn oil. I went with OEM plus myself as well, weighted oem gear knob, shifter bushings both at the gearbox and under the shifter, new shifter cup, new seat covers, new floor mats, leds for the instrument cluster. I have a new stereo but it's a single din, I removed all the speakers including the two in the rear under the seatbelt and replaced with alpine S-S65C just in the doors, this made a huge difference to the sound. I went with 17"'s as the wheels weren't in the greatest condition and like you say there's basically one tyre you can use, I got some rpf1's in black, they were a bit pricey. Suspension is currently stock same as everything else when I bought the car, I have some koni coilovers I will install in the summer along with all the other suspension components. Only concern on mine is the rust, the sills have been patched before but who knows what the inners look like, I assume very bad. Where did you get yours fixed and what sort of price is that? Was once quoted £1600 without them even seeing the car, that scared me right off. Only issue I've had is the clutch went, let my girlfriend drive it for the first time and must have been riding the clutch and it literally exploded. Had the car on jack stands for 3 months trying to free stuck bolts, after installing a new clutch was obvious the old one was on the way out, the pedal feel was way lighter. Could probably change the clutch in a day now...

I had a delivery truck crash into it while parked overnight and their insurance wrote it off. I used the payment to buy it back and had a guy in Southampton repair the damage to the rear quarter and replace the inner and outer sills (cost £2500). The sills were £500 each to fix, and I bought the replacement ones myself online so it was just welding so £1600 sounds about right to completely fix your sills. All depends on how long you see yourself having the car as to whether it's worth it. In hindsight I wish I would've researched where I went because the guy didn't do a great job on certain bits. Basically anything you do to these cars doesn't make sense financially so you have to be okay with not seeing that money coming back in resale value. AKA you have to really like that particular car

@@JackCoward amen. Most of the changes I've made can just be moved onto another mr2 or something similar. The car I've used for the understanding of cars same as yourself, something to learn every week. Will get myself a decent mig welding kit and learn myself, will learn a new skill along the way. Was mr2 Ben sills by chance? Got the car for 1700, can't see myself spending that kind on just sills.

@@jamierdurrant I got them from OAL on eBay about £250 for both inner and outer, seemed to be a better fit although apparently a bit of cutting was needed

you can still get undertrays from toyota, all of them. also the mr2heaven ones are now available. wow sooo much understeer!! I also daily a rev5 and never had that much understeer even on the most slippy roundabouts. Think you may wish to find better tyres, something with an A wet grip like the rainsports

Which is more fun to drive for you? This or gt86?
@JackCoward
@JackCoward 7 ай бұрын
Can't really say for the GT86 but I bought a GR86 and I find it more fun purely because of its tendency to oversteer rather than understeer like the MR2. The throttle and clutch are much better on the MR2 though - it's a more raw experience
@zydomason

@@JackCoward Oh wow thanks a lot, that actually answers my question better than I wanted because I own a 2023 BRZ which I'm in the process of transforming into a GR86 (swapped bumper, coilovers). I really love the looks of the mr2sw20 but I guess it's not worth the hassle if I already own a more fun car. Cheers!
