Received my bottle today. This fragrance makes Antaeus look like a pretty litle girl in pink dress. It smells like a big, bold, heavy "hairy chest" 80ies fragrance. A perfume for the advanced!

I bought the same size bottle you have and yes I love this one. It’s listed as masculine but I don’t care. I really like it. I need to buy a few more of this size. Very nice .

This fragrance is enigmatic, special. I love in my husband who has studied the literature of the Marquis and evokes him his surroundings, the wigs, the ready-made costumes of the time. For me I prefer 1889. The little shop in Paris is charming! Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this well explained and informative review. I purchased HdP Ambre 114 and also a selected sample set which included 1725, 1740, 1828 & 1899. My wife absolutely loved this one when I tried it. I was tossing up between getting 1725 & 1740 (I would like both but cost wise it would be one or the other). I think you may have helped me decide :-)

YESSSSSSS, nice leather . Umm, sample Annick's Sables for immortelle . Yes, it's been reformulated , but it's still one of the better ones. I have the reform . I missed a bottle of the original on the boards though. I kept searching after I saw it, and you guessed it, when I came back it was gone. Another good one by her is Ambre Fetchie . I love HdP . This one and 1899 are exceptional. Great review.

Today I received the HdP 1740 travel size, it came with 2 free samples of Irreverent and Outrecuidant.. Omg I'm head-over-heels in love with 1740 beauty..Thank you for that.. I also bought Noir Patchouli, I love it too and 1826, which I still have to make up my mind about it.

I saw this video, and this fragrance according to the description seemed to be not for me, I wasnt interested. So yesterday I bought HdP 1899, and smelled the 1740 in the shop, still not interested.... But they gave me the sample paper, and as I was walking on the street home, this parfume on the paper started to become better and better, this dusty leathery smell is just... amazing. So I had to go back to the shop and buy a 15ml from this wonder juice, currently wearing, and I have to admit, this is really nice! So, thanks for grabbing my attention with this review! Cheers

I love the description of this fragrance. It sounds amazing. You will find that I am drawn to new and eclectic perfumes. I totally agree with the statement regarding that scents should be well bended with no dominant player. not that I don't enjoy leathers, ambers, ouds, etc. but sometimes it is great to have one such as you are describing that keep surprising you with new dimensions. great review. A few years ago I gave 1740 a sniff and wrote the second it hit my nose. I just came back to it today and I love it. Same thing with GG Absolute. This is also my excuse for not getting rid of fragrances:-)

I walk through the fields of immortelle every day and it's so funny to hear the ham comparrison :) DDoesn't smell nothing like that

Can this house make any bad perfumes? Every single one I smelt I just love. I’ve never met a perfume house line this where I like or love everything. Out of my entire perfume collection , the house I own the most perfumes from is Tom Ford . I was surprised too because I have not purchased any Tom Ford in a very long time. I’ve been into Indie and Niche houses for the past year .

If you love this one you should check out Moschino Pour Homme (1990), a more complex spiced leather (a bit animalic too). Cheers!

I made the mistake of blind buying 1740 based on general consensus of agreeably positive masculine notes and accords (e.g. leather. tobacco, booze, patchouli, etc). What people failed to mention about 1740 is that it mostly projects a nauseating "grandmother" smell of baby powder, and attic moth balls. Think expired talc powder of violet, lavender, and jasmine. And this is the dominant profile from start to finish. So yes, masculinity exists, faintly in 1740, but it scarcely matters as its drowned in a bath of sickly sweet expired powders. If you want to smell masculine or sexy, this is definitely not it. If you want to smell like grandma's corpse, this is the "daring/bold" being spoken of here.
