Your videos have a certain charm to them that is infectious. I am grateful to have been opened into the world of your family. Your wife and son must be very proud of you. Thanks for sharing!

Old timer hint here... Put the head on without a spark plug. Get some 550 cord or clothesline. Put the piston at BDC. Stuff the cord into the cylinder through the plug hole until you can't. The cord will interfere with the piston traveling past TDC and effectively lock the engine. Do what you need to, pull the cord out, and there you go.

You had the answer to the two cycle/four cycle question right in your hand, if a two cycle fires every time the piston is (approximately) at the top of its travel, then it should be pretty obvious a four cycle is twice that, so a four cycle fires every other revolution.

I think that's why they're often referred to as 2 stroke rather than 2 cycle, since the rods stroke twice (up and then down) for every explosion whereas in a four stroke the rods stroke up, down, up, down for every explosion (4 times)

Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. 4 stroke. 2 stroke the same but the compression happens below the piston on the same stroke as the ignition. And the exhaust stroke happens above the piston on the same stroke as the induction. So still 4 parts to the process but they happen in half the rotation. Easy. 👍
@rebelndirt88305 жыл бұрын
4 stroke/cycle engine works like this... Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow. or Intake, Compression, Power, Exhaust.
@slswag11745 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that the scoring in the cylinder was because the motor seized and the reason why the scoring was only on the bottom was because of the rubber piece that was preventing you to remove the gear. So the rubber part is probably to stop a seizures engine from scoring the whole cylinder or to prevent the seizure in general
@crpth15 жыл бұрын
In fact the main reason why most of these small engines seized, either PW or the others with same engine. Is that most "clever" owners think its a good idea to remove the hair filter. Which is not only ridiculous, but a short cut to have a seized engine in just a few hours. The back wheel literally trow all the debris strait into the intake. The rest don´t need any explanation. I have one of these small engines. Previous owner blew it up in a few hours of use...You guessed no air filter. It was so scored that replacement was the only way. BTW I still removed tiny bits of crushed stone from inside the engine. Cheers

I know I'm late to these videos but you might want to look into an impact screwdriver (the kind you smack with a hammer) for those #3 phillips, if you don't have one already. They make those screws a non-issue.

Do you know where I can get a crankshaft and rod assembly for a PW50? I havent been able to find an aftermarket one or even a factory crank all that comes up is the connecting rod by itself..but they have to be pressed in and crank assemblies are usually cheap.. Anyway, every other part is super cheap and is easily pulled up by a quick internet search on ebay and bike sites.. Weird..just wondered what route everyone goes on crankshafts on these bikes, they've made this PW engine for 35+ years
@rengdengdeng88317 жыл бұрын
You probably damaged the crankshaft bearings by knocking the crankshaft out cold. You should have heated up the bearings and maybe sprayed some cooling spray on the crankshaft. Then the removal will be buttery smooth without a hammer.
@jenniesgarage7 жыл бұрын
True, but since these bearings are shot I didn't worry about it. I'll have to be more careful with the other (hopfully good) motor.

Call them 2 stroke and 4 stroke rather than cycle. A cycle is a complete revolution, whereas a stroke is the single up or down movement of the piston. A 4 stroke engine actually does 2 cycles and a 2 stroke engine completes 1 cycle to complete the sequence. I have never heard anyone use the term 2 or 4 cycle engine.

@user-wu5uu5um8c7 жыл бұрын
does a 4 stroke realy work like that?
@CrowdControl1237 жыл бұрын
Yes.
@Koshunae7 жыл бұрын
Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow. Intake, Compression, Combustion(Also known as the Power stroke), Exhaust. That was a good representation of a 4 stroke engine. The vast majority of internal combustion engines work like that but small engines like weed-eater engines work a little bit differently.
@kenneychappuis18537 жыл бұрын
Been saying that for years two strokes are one stroke and four strokes are two strokes
@Dont.....-7 жыл бұрын
Kenney Chappuis Not true the 2 stroke cycle is power, exhaust. While the 4 stroke is induction, compression, power, exhaust. The 2 stroke uses reed valves to buildup compression and mixes it in the crankcase to create pressure it takes 2 strokes to exhaust the old gas while at the same time takes in clean air and fuel for the next power stroke hence 2 stroke. 4 strokes use intake and exhaust valves with camshafts that are timed and driven by the crank shafts so the valves can open and close in time for the pistons to come to the top of the cylinder. 4 stroke cycle 1 is induction. The piston goes down exhaust valve is shut inlet is open. the piston then comes up (cycle 2) both valves closed this I called the compression stroke, next the piston get forced down by the ignition of the fuel this is the power stroke (cycle 3) next the piston comes back up the but now the exhaust valve is open to let out the gas. so you see why it's a 4 stoke cycle not 2 and the 2 stroke is not 1.
