Whenever I see a direct mechanical blocking core I always comment on how ridiculously easy and simple it would be to do this instead of the spring loaded shimmables that have more parts to break. This is another such time :D I love how they put the return force in there with the angled hole, that's something that was completely missing from the Elzett Tutius for example.

Now I wish I had sent my tricircle to you instead of another picker. Haha. I have no idea what model it was, but it was huge and made of cast iron, but brand new. The bitting on the key is what sold it to me. Between that and the amount of spring tension on the core? Took me ages to pick it.

Another good video, @Bosnianbill - thank you. One suggestion, hopefully constructive: we had a lovely in-focus view of your right thumb for most of the picking. Have you tried turning off the autofocus and setting manual focus to stay on the lock? Have noticed this on a few videos from you and others recently - the autofocus is just too bloody fast, and shifts to a thumb or hand instantly.

Great job! I have a bunch of 30mm keyed alike tri circles that's been in use for 23 to 25 years in my place of work. A couple of them died so I stripped one down and was surprised to find something between molten blobs of security pins and those ones in this video. Tri Circle are evolving, or is it adapting 🤔. Anyhow, it was interesting to set what they put in that lock. Thanks Bill 😉👍🏻

9:20. Would the resulting thinness of the shackle at the actuator (and only being secure on one side) make it very vulnerable to a hammer strike on the top?

It's a brass body. If you're going to destructively open it, just cut it with a cut off tool.

@@cheyannei5983 didn't really answer my question
@cheyannei59834 жыл бұрын
@@junkman8742 no, steel is pretty hard to break with shock unless it's overhardened. There's still a relatively high amount of steel there. Maybe there's some potential for damaging the steel actuator's attachment to the brass core. Leverage attacks should be fine, though.

Is it fair to say that if a lock is not precisely made you use light tension to pick it?

Not in my experience. Masters are kind of the default for garbage tolerances, and my 3 wants a ton of tension, 140 somewhat less.

One chance assembly. I can not believe they put the pins in and then cover the bible with brass. Would love to see a factory video of how they are made.
@johndododoe14114 жыл бұрын
I guess the rearmost holes are somehow stuffed with springs before inserting the plug (with key), snapping together when fully inserted. Also a special trick would be needed to drill the bible chambers without leaving visible holes on the surface.
@allenshepard79924 жыл бұрын
@@johndododoe1411 - That is what I was thinking. Cast the shell with an insert to create the "pre drilled holes". Insert the top pins. Assemble the cylinder and cover with a shim. Insert the spring / shackle and hold down so they are ready. Insert cylinder 90 degrees CW. Final step rotate the cylinder CCW till the retaining spring falls into the grove on the cylinder locking everything in place. Permanently. Just a guess.

*YAAAAAAY!!!!* I have one of these padlocks, and have had my one since the mid 1990s. I keep mine on an...... . . . .........Electricity meter. An electricity meter, I hear you ask, with some kind of confusion????? Yes, that's right. In the UK, up until the mid 1990s it wasn't uncommon to have an electric meter in the home where it had to be fed with coins to keep the power turned on! :D Today, such electric meters are still in use in privately-rented houses where the landlord wishes to recover the cost of electricity before it is used (i.e. pre-paid electricity) and because these meters have coin boxes, a padlock is required. I have only ever seen ONE of these little Tri-circle 103s, and it is the one which I keep with my electricity meter *======================================================* You can see the electricity meter and the padlock on this link: www. youtube. com/ watch?v= vwWn_Ex0t9I You will need to copy-and-paste the link and then remove the spaces from it to get it to work, as sometimes, KZbin swipes comments from the comments box which contain clickable links. *======================================================* The other padlock which shows in the video is a L&F padlock and is attached to the electricity meter's coin box in the opening to the video. This is to serve as a TEASER to a future video on that lock! If you're reading this and wish to know more on that L&F lock, then head-on over to *_Wayne's Electrical_* right now and be sure to *_BAAAAAAANNNG_* that subscribe button! Get the bell on and make sure your subscriber perks are enabled! :D In the meanwhile..... If you wish to see many more electricity meters, then once again on *_Wayne's Electrical_* if you head over to the *_Electricity Meters Play List_* there are many more in there right now waiting...... Just for you! :D Do I power them up and rev their loadwheels? Of course! How about running them at *TOP WHACK?!!!!* Do I also spin them in reverse? *ABSOLUTELY! :D* ......For the optimimum Sssatisfaction of the loadwheel action of course! :D For the loadwheel action, you will need the *_POWERED Play List._* Accuracy tests? Yep, I do those as well, and yes, the Accuracy tests can be found in the *_Accuracy Tests Play List_* for the suspense of sitting on the edge of your seat, wondering if the loadwheel will make it back to the beginning in time! :D What about even more electricity meters in the future?
