Awesome video growing up in HB surfed with Bud and went to HBHS with him. Not only was Bud a great surfer he was a really good all around athlete. Very competitive and has a heart of gold. Really good memories watching him surf South North sides HB pier.

I remember that day vividly. It was an Indian summer day, with fog in the AM, then burned off to absolutely glassy conditions with a mild offshore, and jacking sets coming in. The video cut here didn’t show an AMAZING barrel that Slater got... 8 ft set, late takeoff, and completely barreled . I believe it’s the wave that PT said Skater got a “perfect 5 10’s” on. RIP to Chris Brown. That kid ripped !

I was saddened to hear that about Chris Brown. He was a beast in the early 90's and absolutely dominated the Bud Tour. It seems like pro surfing has digressed big time in the US. Nothing like the Bud Tour anymore.

Buds brother Ray was my best friend in the 60's. Ray was killed in an auto accident . Buds mother (June) was the nicest lady ive ever known. My name is Rod Harris.

So funny to see the "swivel hips" surfing from the 80's crew against the future, who crazy enough still is the future, surfing of Kelly Slater. I grew up with Kelly and had to surf against him in the amatuers. We all knew way back then that he was destined to be a multiple world champion. He was that far ahead of anyone else in the water wherever he surfed. I saw things he did in the 80's that defied logic and still see that today. I'd be great to see this whole contest if it's available.

Slater's right about Florida. Mostly crap waves. And Cocoa Beach is the worst place to surf in FL. North of Vero Beach. Best surfer in history comes from the home of two foot mushburgers. I remember him at Sebastian inlet when he was about 12. Fucking killing it that far back.

Hate, Hate I say, this frenetic, obnoxious style of commentary! It takes everything that’s good and special about surfing and turns it into a boxing match or football game! Frankly competitive surfing turns my stomach........Ughh❗️
