Really find these sorts of videos useful. Like you, probably, prefer to focus on sailing. But boats need constant maintenance and it’s always good to see how others maintain their boats so I can apply it to my own boat. Thanks for sharing.

Aloha Christian! I used plastic when I refit Seafire back in 2002, but back then, you couldn't get generic pipe and fittings from Home Depot, so I used the Whale 1/2" tubing and Whale quick-connect plastic fittings. Since then, I've had to replace the fresh water pump system and several of the faucets, but the plastic plumbing is great. I especially like being able to disassemble it for access to tight areas and then snap it all back together again when I'm finished with my repair! I saw Jacques recently, and he sends his regards!

Good to hear. I too think that I don't have to touch the plumbing again. Where did you see jaques? Aloha

Nice job and I am envious you had a Home Depot close by. I have a You Tube "how to" channel but was not about to show how I just replaced my burst copper pipe with a roll of look-a-like PEX and suffer the wrath of viewers. Here in Tanzania, Africa, all I could do was use 5200 and hose clamps to clamp the plastic tubes onto copper stubs. All was done in one continuous run. My scraped, cut and bruised arms sympathize with what you had to deal with. Thanks for showing me how to do it properly......if I can ever get the proper connectors. You have a great channel. I just subscribed.
@sailingZERO6 жыл бұрын
You are welcome.. and thanks for subscribing. Try to get the connectors on amazon or ebay. I'm going to check your channel when i have a better connection..

It's nice when you completely remove an old system like plumbing or electrical and replace it because now you know how it's all installed and how it works, and if there's a problem you have an idea of how to find it and fix it.
@sailingZERO6 жыл бұрын
Yep. Thats right. Its just that removing the complete system is mostly a lot of work and cost a lot of money. But once it's done it feels great.. I do hope though that i dont have to fix anything on that system for a long time.. 🤞

Great job on the plumbing fix. Same experience with SharkBite and PEX! Great combo. Please consider NOT scrapping the OLD COPPER lines. You may NEED these usable copper lines somewhere else on the boat in the future...or on SOMEBODY ELSE's boat (you'd be an instant hero to HAVE immediately available copper!)

No I'm not done a lot of work with PEX or any polyethylene or butylene or whatever but doesn't it look as if that turquoise colored pipe isn't coming straight out enough it seems like it's bending as it comes out of the shark bite

I don't know you say how bad it is to live out of using water jugs but you know I lived many a winter travel and skiing and the it was kind of hard using your whole plumbing system when it went down to 40 below zero every night or thereabouts so I found that I just had to sleep with my water jugs and in the morning they be warm enough to just make coffee and use what I needed and wash up and eventually it became second nature I never found it to be such an inconvenience
@sailingZERO6 жыл бұрын
It's definitely doable. And if you are using it all the time you can set up a system which makes it easier to use. But I thought I would be done in a day or two.. so I just had the 5 gal jugs and they were inconvenient to use.

I would never trust a press-to-fit fitting such as sharkbite on a boat. In a house, sure, but there are too many o-ring seals, too many fittings with just mechanical teeth that are not water tight, that could be affected by corrosion, etc. Im glad it worked for you though.
@sailingZERO3 жыл бұрын
It actually works very well and I see no problem to use them on a boat.

pex is popular in rv's and many new homes too. unfortunately there are published studies after people complaining about 'chemical leaching' into the water.. the studies find toluene and such from the pipe, in the water. even after long periods supposedly it continues to leech. highly likely that the marketing budget of the chem-industrial companies which produce pex are waay larger than the budgets of the researchers trying to study if it is Long Term Bad for people's health. 🧐 ☹️

Dont count on those Sharkbites!!!! Had them leak in my house after a year of installation. Caused an incredible amount of water damage. Cannot imagine how risky that is on a boat moving about and bashing into waves ( compared to sitting behind an access panel in a house that doesn't move at all). Remove Sharkbites and put proper fittings for PEX. This is an accident waiting to happen!!!!
@sailingZERO6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the warning. I'll keep a close eye in them.. did the installation almost a year ago and it's still waterproof.

You’re supposed to leave the 90 degree holders on the pipe permanently
@frankd23016 жыл бұрын
Chris Corum : I thought so too
@baseballDUDE326 жыл бұрын
Pex has no memory.. without the 90 degree holder in place it will return to its original straight pipe. But Pex is very flexible and a 90 degree holder is and added cost that was probably not needed. Save the money.. Return it. Pex I would think is a good answer to the salt water environment. 👍😎

Thanks Chris, I went my Home Depot in Chesterfield, MI., today after work. I am going replace the copper plumbing/tubing in my Chris Craft. Had a few questions to ask. Not a soul to help me. This guy here and you answered WAY more than questions. Thanks. I have 2 heads (forward and aft), bathrooms a shower in the aft cabin and the galley. I will make a schematic. I'll buy the 90 degree things and extra fittings.
