Is engine/dynamic braking the reason the locomotive revs up just as it is stopping? Great video, always loved travelling from Cork to Dublin with a 071 hauling.

No dynamic braking but when the brake application goes down to around 4 bar air brake or 10 inches of vacuum brake the engine revs up to speed up the compressor/ exhauster to realease the brake and charge the main res.

The 071's sounded quite different back then (the NIR 111's still sound the same), there was some mod to the prime mover made in the 1990s (645 E3??). Great bit of video Tom.
