Out of all the QOTSA songs, this sounds the most like a KYUSS song.

This is right after Gamma Ray had to change their Name to Queens of the Stone Age. John McBain of Monster Magnet was the bands second guitarist at the time. Alfredo Hernandez (Across the River, Yawning Man, Sort of Quartet, Kyuss) was on drums. This particular song has the bassist and drummer from Dutch Stoner band Beaver. Check that band out guys. John Garcia wore one of their T-Shirts during a performance on Italian television.

QOTSA never plays this live. Why? What a great song. First QOTSA song I ever heard on Burn One Up. Whether you like the term or not, that album created the genre of stonnerock and Kyuss/QOTSA was the creative force behind it. The whole genre exploded just after Kyuss broke up.

Is there any way of obtaining the whole collection of b-sides and rarities legitimately? I've looked and looked and I can't find anything. It makes me sad because a lot of my favorite songs are b-sides and I can only listen to them on KZbin.
@brendanb72228 жыл бұрын
+NoahTheJerySpringer There's a vinyl that has them. Someone ripped the whole thing and put it on youtube. If you did some digging you could probably find one. If you've already found them by now then disregard this comment.

All the best QOTSA songs sounded like Kyuss. The further Josh got away from the formula, the more dull they became. QOTSA is a shell of what it used to be.

MrRetroville either that or you found them through kyuss making you like them for their kyuss aspects and then when they moved on from their past and began creating their own style and fans you stopped liking them, you should probably listen to kyuss if you want to hear kyuss.
@randomdude199 жыл бұрын
MrRetroville Kyuss was great, but there's only so much you can do with one sound before ending up like most bands: trying too hard to be the same; ex: Greenday. However, Josh is a genius, he doesn't need a single formula.
@joeldasilva29059 жыл бұрын
+MrRetroville Josh has said many times that his mistake with Kyuss was getting roped in with their own sound. Everything Qotsa does is deliberately different than the thing before, the moment you start whining about how you liked the thing they were doing a while back and how they should just stick to that is the moment you forget what queens is all about. Just sit back and enjoy the ride! Era Vulgaris wasn't my favorite and i prefer Songs for the Deaf to Like Clockwork but it doesn't mean that they weren't great for what they were trying to accomplish. Don't get hung up on comparing every Qotsa record to Sky Valley or Songs for the Deaf! Every Qotsa record is a masterpiece in its own respect. Plus if you really don't like a Qotsa record then at least you know they are one of the few bands that guarantee that their next record won't sound anything like the last one!
@coreyweatherford60969 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Gamma Ray sessions were amazing, as were all the albums before Era Vulgaris, but kept getting worse each time. Totally different band,now. Like Clockwork is complete bullshit. Smooth Sailing is the only good song and maybe Kalopsia
