These are the types of videos I like the most. I'm currently in the application process for RMAS (hopefully I'll see you there) and I've found it's quite hard to find actual organic stories from servicemen about what being in the army and on deployments is like. It's either the highlights, or talking about the 'official info', but very little about the day to day and the experience of the individual. A bunch of guys sat drinking water in an Afghan compound and sharing stories is actually the sort of thing I've been hoping to hear.

@@blueyognog good luck with the process. Yeah I genuinely think it’s one of the positives about serving. I’ve literally just got back from an Exercise in the BlackMountains, nothing strenuous for me as a rescue team. Whilst waiting for a call out seen us sitting in a circle drinking brews and sharing stories, I had the pleasure of sharing a checkpoint with some LEs Late entry officers. So listening to their stories was great.

@@JohnnyPrepBushcraft Johnny (Rambo)! Haha yes mate long time. Fancy pinging your number to the email on this channel so it’s not all over the internet! lol Yes mate 18 years! I still remember when you brought in biscuit browns to school from rations and that, me thinking what is this crack. Would have never known that id be eating them for real in a few years time 🤣.

Brilliant video, love hearing about the more personal stories from time on operations and what it's actually like. It's refreshing to hear that experience which seems to be seldom spoke about now. You referred to the generation above yourself that was out in 2006, now I wonder if you knew someone by the name of Rab McClurg, he was my sergeant major/PSI in 2021/22 and he left a very good impression on me from my first year in an Army environment, he was Royal Irish and evidently had a substantial service having been awarded the CGC. Very good instructor and all-round brilliant character. it's coming into contact with soldiers such as him which very much encouraged and continues to encourage me to join and make a career out of the Army. Mega Video, Cheers!

@@adammacdonald2876 thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yes I know Rab, we used to ride bikes together! He is now RSM of 2 R Irish and yes the story of where he won his reward in Afghanistan is a great one.

You were lucky to get put up in Gateway House. I was once going out to BATUS and the flight was delayed for a couple of days, we were bussed out to South Cerny to wait it out and lived in the hangars. I'm fairly sure 1 R IRISH were there as well, summer 2000.

Good listening to the real life experience of young soldiers.I know a lot of them miss the camaraderie when they leave the army in civvy street the reality is it’s every man for himself it’s harsh in the real world holding down a job paying bills everything costs in civvy street. Some lads struggle to adapt to life after the forces.I respect soldiers big time very nearly was one myself.

Well told, I enjoyed that. Surprisingly connected a lot with it too, esp the living conditions, life as a young soldier away from home, the unit cohesion and slowly going our own ways after the mission.. Completely different environment but my first time away was Lebanon during their civil war & Israeli occupation of the south. Wish I could do it all again, and again…. And again

Hey Luke, I'm currently 16 and doing an apprenticeship, after I finish that I'm thinking of joining the Royal Artillery, as I believe that's the safest regiments possible as compared to SAS, Paras, Infantry etc whilst still being a soldier. Should I drop the idea of joining or should I continue to think about it and work towards it? I'm two years away from the end of my apprenticeship so I have plenty of time to think about it, but if I do join I do think the royal artillery is the best place for me. Any thoughts and advice about it would be great thank you.
