this is an unscripted video about writing. recently, I've been thinking much more about the depths of writing. it is not what I initially thought. so, here is a video on a novice's insight into the craft.

That's great, thank you! I'm starting to upload more purely talking-based videos on my channel. Most of them will be centered around writing. So, if you like writing, tune in! And thanks for the comment!

I'm sitting here crocheting and just listening to your voice as background noise; I don't know why but I kind of find listening to you waffle comforting.

I have already gone through the "i dont know if I am in control of my writing or if my writing is in control of me" phase and i ended up making a potery about it( like toxic melancholy lover theme) I mostly take my raw emotions at the moment and create a fictional world of it with characters and setting that discribe my mood, then i usually take the story further adding details and enhancing the feelings and making a whole story that go like that, I think this has greatly enhanced my writing and have me articulate better and also have me let me found my own style, the grounded to reality simple yet deep and expressing i think dostoevsky comes to mind not like every one would go through things the charcters go through but people do have indugle on those "feelings" of loneliness, chaos a work that give there feelings a place and give them a deeper sense of self, writings which feels reality yet fictional and just flow(my writing style) ,I too used to think adventure, totally different magic worlds what people like, but i found myself taking more intrest in reading stuff like you mentioned, i think good writing truely can make people feel emotions and take them to there world

it sounds to me like you have a really good idea of where to take your writing and how you develop it. Awesome! I like to read a bit of both - the crazy out-there worlds, and those worlds that are familiar to us. I haven't read much Dostoevsky, but from what i have, his characters run very deep. they are almost like mirrors to ourselves. And i agree, that recently i have found myself liking more works that describe the human emotion. i find i can relate to it more now.

Pardon me and I haven't finished watcing the video but holy fuck, I had this exact realization just recently. As a 21 year old who grew up in a conservative household and was deprived of social interaction and real world experience for most of my life, reality has been hitting me hard these past few years. I have all of these writing ideas that I feel so excited about but just can't seem to be able to put down on a page simply because I don't have the experience or knowledge necessary to make them come to life. All the very little things that I missed growing up now get in the way. It feels like I'm a missing a few fingers or even an entire limb. Tbh, you don't really need to have so many life stories or first hand experiences to be able to write compelling stories, but understanding people and yourself is very crucial.
@ColtraneWrites-xy2gn
@ColtraneWrites-xy2gn 3 ай бұрын
I agree, life stories and first hand experiences aren't a requisite for good storytelling. i just feel that drawing from these experiences can heighten whatever you write about. I don't know you well enough to say this, but from what you've written, you seem to have a good understanding of yourself (which isn't always easy to do!) but from what you've stated, it sounds like you already have something to write about... your own experiences with isolation etc. these can be implemented into their own story, or extrapolated and used to explore an entirely different world, but all of which is centred around what you know. Personally, i try not to get too caught up in the 'write what you know' idea. writing is a free activity. do what you choose with it. Best of luck with whatever you write.

@@ColtraneWrites-xy2gn Thank you! Yes, my experience with social isolation is exactly what the story I'm currently planning hones in on. Obviously, you're a very intelligent and thoughtful individual, and I hope you continue to grow and enjoy your writing journey!

Your channel is inspiring me as a new writer. I would love to read something that you wrote that you personally love. I have yet to ever put words to paper and I'm looking to read more writers to inspire and guide me. Im a musician and songwriter, which is very sporadic and poet. Im so intrigued by the cohesive flow of the novel. I would love to read something of yours and any recs you have. Much love.

Thank you, I’ve been looking around KZbin for the past few days because I’ve lost motivation for this absurdity of a world we live in. After stumbling upon this video it sparked some sort of inclination in me to create. My mind keeps going back and forth on what to pursue and maybe this video hit the nail in the coffin for it

Hello! I'm really happy you enjoyed my video! My favorite books on writing are The Science of Storytelling, by Will Storr. This was pivotal for me when it came to developing plot and understanding why certain plots and characters work so well. And secondly, John Yorke's, Into the Woods. This has some incredible ideas on creating characters and really bringing them to life. There's a large chunk in this book dedicated to character writing that I always revisit. While there are an endless number of books on writing, these are a great start. Hope this helps!

i really like how passionate you are about writing , seeing interest and drive in others nowadays seems off when people seem to be in airplane mode , i know going through it first hand is irreplaceable and unmatchable experience but! talking to people can open a space of your mind too (seems the obvius thing right) i remember how the reddit threads changed me as a person or random college classmates , im so drama but it did, and also finding the people you want to write about outside of your self . and dont do dr+gs please at least not hard ones (you probably are my age but my older sister self jumps in But that is only my take have fun be wise and i hope to come across your work in the future :)

“The Writing God” I love that! Inspiration made sense for me after having a metaphysical understanding. For anyone who considers themselves creative I highly recommend the book (this might be obvious but…) “The Creative act: A way of Being” by Rick Rubin, it is revolutionary! It was everything I didn’t know how to express about the process of creating, i felt acknowledged and seen as a creative, an artist.

I've always liked writing and literature and stuff, I get interested in other's life "stories", but I eventually realised some people just don't think their life got a point or a "story" ,I always lived my life imaging a script explaining everything I do and why I do it, but some people live for simply doing their duty, not to say they're boring but when I feel like sharing some if my philosophical thoughts they always respond with "why do you think too much" even though I don't think it's "too much" , I don't know if anyone got my point
@ColtraneWrites-xy2gn
@ColtraneWrites-xy2gn 3 ай бұрын
perhaps your tendency to think too much might be generous towards your writing. I think it's hard to write without thinking too much. although one of my favourite authors, Ray Bradbury, said that thinking too much kills creativity. That's a very interesting take, one which i struggle to grapple the entire idea of. But even if nobody else understands your point, i get you. I think a lot, too. there's nothing wrong with it. but honestly, sometimes its nice to mute your mind (even though it's hard!) and go with the flow.

This really captivated me from start to finish. Such an interesting point you started off with when you say "I don't know if I'm in control of my writing, or if my writing is in control of me". They say that journalling/writing is a gateway to a conversation with your subconscious self, and I think that to be 100% the case. I think writing has helps you understand yourself kind of similar to having a conversation that just flows with someone you deeply trust. You have inspired me to begin writing/journalling more seriously. I really enjoyed this video and you should do more talking/analysis videos like this. Mushroomman2929 out
