hey Peter! Kelly's Station will be a beacon to all those who enjoy 18th Century Reenacting! I will be anxious to see how it comes along. Ever since, as a young lad, I read Stevenson's book, "Treasure Island", the idea of having my own Blockhouse, has been a seed in my soul that has yet to sprout... so I am living vicariously through you and your adventures! Thanks for sharing them with us all!

I don't think that will be a problem! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! As they used to say in the Army, "Run it up the Flagpole and see who salutes!" Of course, ya know, ANYBODY who owns a Fort can put whatever they want up on their Flagpole!! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! What a mental image! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! @@TheWoodlandEscape

Peter it is great that you want to leave something truly incredible for future generation to marvel at and learn from, a space were they can gather to both share and learn, whatever a coureur du bois would say as a salute, you and the misses (forgive me her name has slipped my old mind) are worthy of that salute.

People think cutting down a tree is the tough part but it ain’t. The tough part is limbing and cleaning up the mess. It takes me about 15 minutes to get a big tree on the ground and several hours to clean up the mess and process the tree and I am using big chainsaws.

Amazing to see the process, i saw a Blokhuis reconstruction recently from a earlier period and was amazed how much they where a home aswel as a bunker. In the reconstruction they used a lime finish to aid it in fireprotection. Don’t know if this is historically accurate for Canada but it gave it a real nice finish.
@TheWoodlandEscape

They were using lime in the 1700’s, so I suspect it is totally accurate. Thanks for your interest.

So if you just wanted people to come and visit, wouldn’t it have been easier, and cheaper to pay for their motels? 😀😀 Looks like you got a good start going there…..oh, and I was just at some of those block houses you were talking about, just this spring. Don’t know if they were the exact same, but they were built for the same reason. Some seriously solid buildings, but they had a lot of backup too. Lots of cannons behind ramparts, places to shoot rifles from, etc…. For before they would need to get inside those. If I remember correctly, they had some for safe storage, and some supplied to fight from. Pretty neat to stand on a place that is still pretty much like it was. Like most of the buildings were gone, but to look out on the river from those block houses, and the view I had was exactly the same they would have had. Very neat. Good luck on the continuing progress!

Didn't quite catch the name of the man from Ottawa, the CC wrote; 'burner'...so I suspect it's; 'Bernard'. In any case, I had a dickens of a time trying 2 figure out who was 'you'? That man could pass for a double of you, Peter, any day = YIKES! I am getting the feeling that what you really R trying 2 build is a 'community of like-minds', and that's a wonderful notion. Feels Good, doesn't it? What a group of lovely people! As always, thank you dear Catherine for your find hand at putting this vid together...always so nicely done! Moose sausage...now there's a rare delight...2 B sure! And a man that can not only weave, he cooks! Blimey! “The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.” (Charles Dickens).Easy now Peter...there's sawing logs but also remember to 'saw logs' ZZZzzzzzz! LOL! I made a trade knife a few years ago we use. Yesterday I asked my wife how she imagined Native American seeing and touching a steel knife for the first time may have felt and their mind dreaming of all it could do for the health and well being of their family. Don't worry it will be needed. Nobody knows how to make it off the land anymore.

I believe that there are a few and might go as far as to say a resurgence in self sufficiency.

My grand father would be yelling at you. If he was alive he would have had you build a pyramid, 2 legs the same size and one longer and a short spike to set the log on at about the center. Then haul your log and set it on the spike close to balanced. Lean on the side you are on and back up till the other end is on the pile, pick up your end 1" and walk it and set in place. Less walking, less picking up, less leg cramps, less back aches and a lot more production. My lecture was, I am not paying you to pick up wood and walk I am paying you to stack wood. Like the stupid little boy I was, I said you are not paying me , He said I should be charging you for teaching you. As a young man he worked a the saw mill in the swamp and the mules drone the saw mill and logs were floated to the main cable and it was set up like a clothe line that ran between buildings on second and third stories on shivs. The mule stayed on dry ground, they were valuable, the men fought snakes and slogged in the swamp. Looks like a good place for old men to haul the family for end times.

A FORT NOT NECESSARY?!?! I built many forts as a kid. Not as awesome as yours though.

I’m sure to a young kid they were equally impressive. My first one was made of goldenrod tied in bundles with bailer twine … it leaked a wee bit but, oh my, such a grand fort!
