I live in Montana and were not required to have Insurance for motorcycles, but were strongly advised to obtain it haha another reason why I love Montana and all its relaxed Laws. BTW! digging the pink SKS in the background.

Here’s my strategy, purchase used bike 3-4 years old I pay around 4-5k$ for the bike and it’s insured for liability + theft. I pay 70$ a year in insurance. I have been doing that for 16 years. I saved around 600$ per year for over 16 year.

The best insurance is one that actually pays when you need it to. Look at customer satisfaction ratings. Paying the lowest premium sometimes means they are less likely to pay a claim. All that cheap premium was for naught if they don't pay up.

I bought a 2006 gsxr 1k for $4000. I had a car come into my lane and I crashed into the side of him. I got $2300 for the bike repairs and then I had a guy knock it over and I got $6500 to salvage the bike. Also now I have AAA insurance and pay around $140 a month for 2012 and 2008 zx10r's (full coverage and $250 deductible), 1993 zx7 (liability)

Most of the big companies will allow you to use their website and put in the parameters for the bike, what type of coverage, etc. They will give you a quote. That's what I did. I shopped the bikes I wanted based on what the projected insurance coverage cost was going to be. So you can see what a Ninja zx10 would be for your age and coverage parameters as opposed to a touring bike or cruiser. Typically, supersport will be the most expensive to cover. But they will save quotes for you. Try Allstate, Progressive and Geico's site first.

IDK where he gets comp from, but mine is around $1.30 extra a month. even after several years no way you are buying a motorcycle on that, and yes, covered for hail, fire, flood, yada yada yada. things like anti theft devices (fork locks, lowjacks, nano application etc) helps comp prices drop. comp also usually adds in accessories you've added. mine covers 1500 in aftermarket accessories, after I get more mods for it it will be going to 3000

cool video, BUT,,, you left out one very important insurance item.. medical payment to you. you have anything covered here except you yourself. liability, uninsured, under insured. it covers everything except your person...... with today's healthcare laws going insane with high deductibles policies upward of 5k to10k you will need some form of medical coverage for yourself on the bike. we as riders will most likely get hurt in an accident, where are you going to come up with that 5k-10k cash? add some medical coverage for yourself on the bike. passenger is covered on liability but it would be very wise to up your coverage amount here too. moral of the story,,, cover your ass too.....

In Canada insurance can be pricey, especially if you have 2 cancel due to non-payment marks against you. My insurance was quoted at 8650$ for the year in advance for an 1995 1100 shadow. THATS CRIMINAL, ime in 40's just got M1, no way insurance should price you out of a hobby. It ruined what gave me joy. who can afford almost 9k for insurance for a 3000$ bike? something is desperately wrong with the system, and there is nothing we can do about it but pay up.
