This is by far one of the hardest things for a young man. I had my TJ surgery at 16yo and unfortunately I wasn’t able to come back from it. I feel for him on the dream getting taken away at such a young age. Amazing to see he’s made a great recovery

man, I had two stress fractures in my back freshman year that I played through. Was waking up at 3:30 in the morning to go to therapy with my dad before school. Had to give it up eventually. Now I’m 18 and still haven’t figured out the issues with my back. I can’t even explain how much I miss just going outside and hitting baseballs for hours

Dont forget. There are people who literally get the TJ surgery done BEFORE an injury in an attempt to strengthen it before it pops. Also, it has been known to increase velo 2 to 3 mph once fully recovered from a NON RUPTURED surgery

Only downside is he’ll probably need TJ surgery at some point. Pitchers can’t handle that much torque and velo for extended lengths of time. Hope this kid is different and has a long successful career **edit already had UCL surgery.. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think kids nowadays appreciate enough the ability to not throw as hard as you can. I remember when Justin Verlander started pitching, he had no problem throwing 98/99. However, he chooses to start with a slower fastball and rev up the speed later in the game. That probably contributed to the longevity of his career.

I believe with the way they can anchor a tendon of such there is very little fear of it ever tearing off again . They drill a hole in the arm bone and send the tendon with an anchor to the bone and baseball stitch it in place so unless the titanium anchor finds a magic breaking point look out. He has a lot to prove to be a real pitcher for years . This happening this early is going to scare the pants off scouts. If he finds his way to the MLB it will be a miracle but that is the case for most people I supposed and a 99 heat at least gives him more chance than your average fella. I have seen guys like this end up in Mexico a bunch and make nice careers out that . I hope he does not break .

People wondering why TJS is more in Highschool levels now then the MLB....you have kids that are hearing that VELO is the only way so the kids just throw as hard as they can ever time they pick up a baseball.

Little league coaches overusing their ace pitchers are largely to blame for all the TJ surgeries going on in teenagers nowadays.

Stop letting kids throw breaking pitches at young ages. Not until they are older. He will need another TJ done by the time he’s 23. Which he will shorten his career by many years.

This is getting stupid. The mlb is sacrificing pitchers. Keep the clock but let them use substances for grip. Piss on the heater and let em concentrate on curves and such. But no the mlb only wants heat and hard hits for tv. These kids are ruining their arms well before college. It's sad

Once they manufacture everyone in the bigs to throw 99 then what…hitters get used to it. Throwing hard is not pitching. It would behoove clubs to start the culture of the Glavine and Smtz era back.
