Really hard to say, if it wants to reach the audience of the new generation, then yes an ouran remake is necessary, similar to rurouni kenshin and spice and wolf Bleach tybw was one of the rarest adaptation that still pulled a massive audience in this generation, because it's part of the big 3😊

Yeah I think Bleach was a unique case since it is one of the most well known anime of all time so they didn't need to reboot it. Ouran is not that, but rather more a cult following so yeah...a reboot is probably the root they'll go and I'll accept it AS LONG AS THEY TELL THE WHOLE DANG THING!

its hard to say. problem is ouran isnt super popular in japan and never was but the musical seems to have been successful. another problem is that ouran is so 2000s anime comedy. i think audiences can and do still enjoy it, but to reproduce might be kinda hard. but reboot is probably better than remake, like fruits basket

Yeah I've heard this about Japan before and it's really interesting if true. I wonder why it was more popular in the West. I believe Funimation are the rights holders shockingly so I hope that helps with them being a Western company. That said I fully never expect anything, but can always hope.

@@westsideotaku1555 tbh i think it just happened by random chance. it was destined to be a less known anime. but a few people in the west happened to like it a lot and recommend it to others and it got super popular. also bc the english dub performances are actually quite funny

I'm on team reboot! Mainly because of the outdated aspects of the OG and because I believe that those aspects were not meant to be disrespectful at the time and could be brought current. I was 23 when the anime came out and I recently found out that my nieces and nephews who are pre-teen and teenagers are fans of the show and manga and so there still seems to be an appeal to younger audiences who are both straight and in the LGBTQIA+ community.

This series holds a special place in my heart and is one of my comfort anime's. I'd love a second season. I hope that someone somewhere is listening and grants us this wish. I would be ok with watching a reboot that adapts to a modern audience, but only if it continues to adapt the end of the manga. So far I've enjoyed the new Spice & Wolf reboot and was so relieved to find out there will be a season 2. I still miss the og version style, but I wanted that story continuation more than anything. I was impressed by the Fruits Basket reboot, too because it was mostly true to the manga to the very end. However, Ouran's humor is so distinct to the time it was released and I've reread & rewatched it way more than S&W and FB that I kinda didn't want a modern version. The OG Ouran anime is so charming. I feel like a reboot wouldn't be bad, but it'd have less out-of-pocket humor and be even more shoujo like instead of a satire anime. However, after so much time has passed, I'm finally ok with redoing it all, maybe with a style more similar to the manga, more characters introduced that the og anime never did, and a full adaptation of the manga. I'm sure the story themes are still relatable to this day. It's just so sad that it still feels ludicrous to wish for an Ouran comeback as more time passes and everything else from long ago manages to return somehow. 😢

Yeah you and I are very much on the same page I think. Ouran's humor fit the early 2000's super well, but then that's also kind of why I hope for just a continuation because from that point on they get a bit more serious with less of that risky for the time stuff. I'm 100% with you on being totally okay with a reboot as long as the whole story gets adapted and not rushed. Every couple weeks we will get news of something from over a decade ago return, but Ouran will always be left to be a classic untouched...Maybe that's okay...but us fans still want to see the full story adapted damnit.

I think its one, if not, the best of comendy and mocking tropes. I think the main thing, is that Oran could be very interesting done as new season with brand new characters. But even just a remake, would be so much fun. I wouldn't mind another studio doing it, especially if they put the love and work into it deserves.

But which do you think? Reboot or Continuation? I think that's the interesting debate here cuz I think a lot will say a continuation, but will it feel as "like yesterday" as Kimi Ni Todoke's did?

I think if they did a reboot they could improve so much from the first season. I rewatched it at the start of 2023, and I love it, but some scenes can def be done better/funnier for a newer audience.

If this show ever gets a remake Fruits basket style, I’d like to see more of the Lobelia girls. Especially with a scene that makes a Godzilla reference with Tamaki as Godzilla and the Lobelia girls as King Ghidorah and Haruhi as Mothra. Though the episodes featuring the Lobelia girls should have more of a Tom and Jerry Style Slapstick form of humor to them
