My personal favourite story in this context is that of Gerd Postel. As the name suggests, he was a postman who secured several positions as a chief doctor in hospitals and finally became the leading phychiatrist in a clinic in East Germany. In fact, the local minister BEGGED him to take that position. He later wrote a book titled "Playing Doctor" and says he was "an imposter among imposters", explaining that psychiatry, as of back then, was a pseudo-science, applied by insecure people.

As a nursing student I tell you all, there will never be a dougie Houser in real life. Not only does learning all the medical knowledge take literal years to accumulate but there's policies, ethics and practicals you have to take to ensure you can use that knowledge in a mature and responsible manner. He is not 1 of 1, we had one recently in Spain. He was treating elderly people, he was 17, he didnt charge anybody, they loved him 😅

what a shame... Imagine if this kid actually spent his time in jail studying and learning what he needed in order to go to actual medical school and become a real doctor. I was kind of sympathetic toward him the first time around. But, then he gets out and immediately goes back to lying and committing fraud. How sad...

People always say stuff like this but, like other cases, pretending to be qualified/lying/scamming requires minimal abilities(other than lack of morals) compared to genuine skills. There's not the slightest chance the effort he put into scamming(much of which was attained by simply being self-absorbed and lacking morals) came anywhere remotely near the effort required to become a doctor.
