edward snowden is a high ranking CIA officer that does cross department red team training and ran off with all of NSA's red team tools to "make a point" about how the NSA was doing mass domestic spying at the request of congress and didn't say no to their bosses. The NSA's job is to monitor passively, the CIA's job is hindered greatly by this. I do not think snowden is a bad guy but he is absolutely not a good guy.

@@bbblahoo7 Our host says Snowden is "famous / infamous" and I considered this presentation many times since watching. Snowden is an American hero who needs to be correctly recognized. Snowden took pains to assure only legitimate press reviewed his disclosure, which did reveal dangerous overreach of secret technology. Julian Assange, in contrast, is a miserable ideologue who weaponized information _against_ democracy. Snowden is an American hero who sacrificed hugely to protect the United States from our government. He must be recognized under existing protections for whistleblowers. Until then, he's a fugitive from charges that do not allow a whistleblower defense in criminal court.

@Coffeezilla, I just found this video and I wish I saw it right away when you posted about it in April. My father was one of the victims of Sunil Tulsiani and it was very hard on our family. Sunil and his partners were ordered years ago to pay millions in restitutions to the victims, but as of today they have paid nothing. I was shocked to see that Sunil is still active in this space and I hope no one else becomes a victim now that this is public. Although my family won't get made whole again, it was nice to see Snow tear him a new one

Topic aside, it is so important that we keep giving Snowden a platform. He is likely the only American who understands exactly what it is like to go up against the government in the way that he did. Our constitution exists to protect us from tyranny, not dictate our daily life/laws, and Snowden is one of the only modern examples of what it truly means to be blatantly suppressed and attacked by this covert regime.

@@williambarrantes1674 an idealist believes in an idea, and acts accordingly. "places ideals above practical considerations"- (Merriam Webster dict) an ideologue is trying to make everyone else act accordingly to their ideas, is what I would describe. Merriam Webster dictionary has a different definition, yet still quite interesting: an often blindly partisan advocate or adherent of a particular ideology what I feel is particularly interesting is what antonyms and synonyms the word 'ideologue' has, as it gives you a context in the language. Synonyms crusader, fanatic, militant, partisan (also partizan), red hot, true believer, zealot Antonyms nonmilitant so yeah, quite a significant distinction
@GivenFailure
@GivenFailure 3 жыл бұрын
@@williambarrantes1674 A major difference in this context is that an ideologue is willing to transcend personal ideals for an ideology. Principally these are the distinctions: An idealist is someone who values ideals or morals over practical ends. It could also, quite distinctly but related mean someone who believes that people can be ultimately good (especially under the correct circumstances). This is commonly associated with naivety and the far left, e.g. hippies, anarchists, communists. An ideologue is someone who is driven by a belief in the superiority of some systems (political, social, economic,etc.) often without any mitigating guiding principles. Personally I associate it with means to an end thinking: The cause is more important than the truth. Doing bad thing to x person is justified, because x person is the enemy of the ideology. If you aren't with us you are a Nazi, or a marxist, or a communist, etc. Ideologue has a negative connotation typically, while "idealist" is much more contextual.
