@@williambarrantes1674 an idealist believes in an idea, and acts accordingly. "places ideals above practical considerations"- (Merriam Webster dict) an ideologue is trying to make everyone else act accordingly to their ideas, is what I would describe. Merriam Webster dictionary has a different definition, yet still quite interesting: an often blindly partisan advocate or adherent of a particular ideology what I feel is particularly interesting is what antonyms and synonyms the word 'ideologue' has, as it gives you a context in the language. Synonyms crusader, fanatic, militant, partisan (also partizan), red hot, true believer, zealot Antonyms nonmilitant so yeah, quite a significant distinction
@GivenFailure3 жыл бұрын
@@williambarrantes1674 A major difference in this context is that an ideologue is willing to transcend personal ideals for an ideology. Principally these are the distinctions: An idealist is someone who values ideals or morals over practical ends. It could also, quite distinctly but related mean someone who believes that people can be ultimately good (especially under the correct circumstances). This is commonly associated with naivety and the far left, e.g. hippies, anarchists, communists. An ideologue is someone who is driven by a belief in the superiority of some systems (political, social, economic,etc.) often without any mitigating guiding principles. Personally I associate it with means to an end thinking: The cause is more important than the truth. Doing bad thing to x person is justified, because x person is the enemy of the ideology. If you aren't with us you are a Nazi, or a marxist, or a communist, etc. Ideologue has a negative connotation typically, while "idealist" is much more contextual.

That shows that people that create these schemes are just delusional. To think that a guy who risked his life to expose secrets of the most powerful nation will endorse them. The funny thing is that in that conference the majority of that audience probably were enraged inside. Not at the fact they might be being scammed, but that Snowden would dare say something against their investment. When the scammer returned and lied to them they probably gave a sigh of relief and continued investing. Still great that Snowden did that. I love people like him.
