I know a guy living there with his Khmer girlfriend in basic simple apartment for $50. When I was living there, I had a bit nicer place for $150. Coming back in 2023. Can’t see paying more than $100 a month for another apartment. One secret is to never use your air-conditioning. Allow your body to acclimate to the climate. It should take two or three weeks. Use open windows and fans only. If you use air-conditioning, you will never get used to the tropical climate. You will suffer EVERY time you go outside. I got so use to the climate that I found air-conditioning to be extremely uncomfortable. Just two or three weeks of suffering with the heat to get acclimated…and then you should be fine. Before renting…. ALWAYS check for bedbugs. And if you have a little house gecko or two in your apartment, ignore them. They eat the bad bugs that you don’t want.

Any recommandation about How to find a 50/100$ à month for 2 months in SR ? That would really help, thanks 🙌

Personally, not a hellish hot fan, I simply could not survive here without air con, especially in the insane months, mid - March to June. As I don't smoke, eat meat, or pop pills, or own a vehicle, and drink moderately, the extra power costs dont worru me. But as air con is not healthy, am considering exiting this area during the hellish months.

Well the way most people use AC it's no wonder you feel 'uncomfortable' ! -- My experience is that people make it 'cold' - as opposed to simply 'comfortable' when using AC all too often. -- You have a valid point with getting used to the heat - yet I always had trouble sleeping when sweating ! Several I hear use some ac at night to help them sleep in places like the Philippines. -?-

"Mystery Cambodia" youtube channel has lived in Cambodia for 18 years and never pays over $47/month for electricity. He said the secrets are to get a North facing apartment, because of the sun(it will stay cooler for your A/C). Do not use the electric stove. Buy a little propane burner that uses the little $1 cans for it. Make sure you have access to the electric and water meter, or else the landlord will be adding her electricity onto your bill.

This video blew up a lot more than I was expecting, so here are some answers to some common questions that you might have. (Btw, please consider subscribing if you want to see me post more videos about life as a retiree in southeast Asia.) 1. Yes, it's possible to get a better deal than this. If you shop around enough, you might be able to find a 1-bedroom for as low as $120 a month. 2. Other cities in Cambodia also have deals this good. Siem Reap is the city that is best for expats, in my opinion (lots to do, everyone speaks English). 3. Apartments are always fully furnished. This includes bed, refrigerator, washer, etc. Wifi and water is typically included for free (or a $5 fee).

Damn! That's not bad! $150/month I get a shitty hotel room in small town Thailand. I saw on my visa run to Siem Reap you can rent a luxury apartment 300/month just 5 min walk from Pub Street. I thought that doesn't sound too bad considering cost of living in Thailand seems to be going up. Only hang up with moving to Siem Reap is I'll have to find a job and I've heard it's more work finding a job. Plus I've heard salaries are less than Thailand. Honestly, Siem Reap blew me away. 38 new infrastructure projects they did since 2021 and the city looks wonderful.

I saw the video on the $50/month apartment. That is a good deal, but I felt the downsides to it were: have to flush the toilet with a bucket of water, no A/C, the top of the walls is completely open to the apartments next to you and then the neighbors can crawl into your apartment, when your gone. :(

When you arrive in Cambodia, immigration will ask which visa you want. You tell them you want the "ordinary visa" aka the looking for work visa ($35). It is good for 30 days. You can keep renewing it indefinately for every month. Staying in Cambodia long term is easy.
