No en todos lados, por ejemplo, si consigues un conocido local, te puede ayudar a conseguir un lugar y te puede recomendar. El contrato pueden hacerlo a 6 meses y si le pagas tres meses de arriendo por adelantado te lo alquilan. Conozco a unos gringos que alquilaron una casa de lujo, en un estrato alto 6 y pagaron 6 meses en un solo pago. Hicieron contrato y listo.

Great video Siayan. I've lived in Cali for 2.5 yrs but I'm too much of a homebody and an introvert to claim to be an expert. Nevertheless, I really like Cali, there is so much to recommend it, especially for a Black gringo but I have a couple of comments about the rental market. I currently pay 1.65 million pesos per month for an unfurnished Aparte-studio in Centenario which includes utilities, wifi, and a washing machine. I'm paying a bit of gringo tax but I just checked Criagslist from Oakland and while it looks like the prices are coming down a bit (Yay!) I know I would be paying at least 4x as much for an equivalent unit back home without utilities. However, I think you MUST be a local and/or have excellent Spanish and previous Cali connections to not only get but tolerate a unit this cheap. Cali can be extremely noisy and hot in a way that most gringos can't tolerate. Unless your Spanish is excellent and you have local friends and connections to vouch for you I don't think that you would be able to find someplace like this or get them to rent to you. I was lucky that I found an Airbnb guy who liked me who had a cousin who owned a building. Still, he only rented to me initially because I already had a long-term pensioner's visa, a Colombian bank account, and a friend who would co-sign the rental agreement for me. We still had to get the agreement notarized and I had to give two months deposit. I might be wrong but I think your chances of renting any long-term apartment especially a nice one in a nice neighborhood are slim if you don't have these things. Also keep in mind that the majority of real estate agents here are trash. I think they get paid for not responding and not renting to people. It's possible to find someplace but it's going to take a long time and it's going to be hard work. I think the best option for most new gringo's who are staying for intermediate and long term is to "lower" your expectations of cheap rent and find an Airbnb that a neighborhood they like and negotiate to rent it long term. I think most gringos should budget for an $750 per month to start but I think that will get you a nice place in a nice neighborhood with good amenities and then you can work on finding a cheaper place.

Totally agree on this. I did the AirBnB thing as well and found a long-term rental for $750 that includes everything (water, electricity and internet). I am in a gated apartment complex with 24hr security, 2 pools and gym. Also, going this route you get a place that is already furnished. One thing to note in Colombia is when renting on the cheap you get a bare bones place - No fridge, washing machine, furniture, some place do not have window coverings. So your initial out of pocket is huge, to get the place set up. The good thing is on moving you take everything with you to the next place. Yes, I can find cheaper but the loop holes you have to go through to get a place as a foreigner is just ridiculous.

that depends. for me, it is, and I would live there. but my tolerance for danger is higher than average. for most gringos, I would say it's just barely not safe enough, because for a standard, I would prefer them to live in a building with a guard, or a gated housing complex. you can get that price as a gringo, but it takes some knowledge. That’s common in Colombia- even high end places have heavy security- be a guard or metal fences. I know places estrato 6 that on the patio have steel bars (covering the roof)

I'm paying $370 a month for an upscale three-bedroom 1st floor condo in a gated community, with a pool outside my window, shops and restaurants outside my gate, and a mall within 5 minutes walking distance. Also, the weather is absolutely perfect year round. Also 😂 Cali is trash by comparison.
