How will you know it's original, the packaging is the plastic one?

Yes original are coloured round barrels in a plastic box..... Then you have round black barrels in a tin... Then there is the square coloured barrels in the tin lol..... Many brutfuners.... They are all nice though

I have the 160set the same as the other ones you have. I did wonder if this was the same with an extra 20. But now because of this its helped me make my mind up to get this set. So I can mix the two lots together. Because that is now 340 colours.

A lot of the colours will be similar it’s the lay down of the pencils that makes them very different....I am glad to have both sets though....and I ended up with the square set lol....apparently I really like brutfuner pencils

I live in Australia and had never seen or heard of these pencils before. Amazon UK is sold out & the Aussie version of Amazon doesn't sell them. What interested me most was the hardcover book (which I assume is a colouring book) that you did your frog picture in. Can u tell me the name of it & it's author/illustrator as I would LOVE to get a copy. I would love the pencils too but will have to be patient with my Derwent & Faber Castel. Loved watching your informative video.. thank you x

Hi there.... The Brutfuner come in and out on amazon all the time so they will pop back up.... The creyart that I have reviewed are very similar as well..... The book is a hard cover coloring book by the wonderful Hanna karlzon called Magical Dawn.... You can buy it from amazon along with her other books

Amazon Australia now has this set. They ship from the USA and the tin usually arrives all banged up because they are not packaged well for their journey half way round the world. Also see review from Sarah Clark, a fellow Aussie who had the same shipping problem with packaging.

Hi and tfs. Brutfuner pencils interest me because I have seen/read a lot of people raving about them, especially the original 120 (color-barrel) set. If I do not have immediate access to FC Polychromos and I want oil-based pencils, then I'll reach for the Schpirerr Farben, which imho are FCP's best substitutes; unfortunately they only have 96 colours. Well, I should like FC expand the Polychromos range instead of discontinuing and replacing. Anyway, enough of my rambling. So, in your opinion, comparing the old to the new Brutfuner sets, which one performs better in general? Thank you again.

Hi there.... If you work a lot on amazon paper the original brutfuner don't work well with that.... The new set are nice and creamy so they lay down really lovely..... But the old set lay down really beautifully in the Johanna basford kind of paper so it depends they both have their place.... The original are firmer and you need to layer more.... Hope the info helps

@@emmacolours Thanks for your prompt reply. Layering is the part I enjoy the most in colouring--wouldn't stop at least after 5 or 6 layers. Choosing colours is a different matter though 😜. So I guess the 180 set suits me better. One final question: is the core size decent? Over 3.0mm would be nice (FCP=3.8mm, SF=3.3mm)

Shaina, if you haven't got them yet, the best place to buy is probably AliExpress where I got mine. I did quick swatches of them all on a blank piece of paper and they all felt nice and creamy and all gave a good colour sample without undue pressure.

In your opinion are the Crey art or the 180 Brutfuner set the best? I have the 150 set of Prismacolour, I have a set of Karrisma colours (they are a 26yr old set & the best) & a few caran d 'ache luminance and a few faber castell polychromos but because I've only just getting back in to colouring I want to start by using cheaper brands but can not decide between Crey art or Brunfuner (the black barrel ones) which would you recommend? I would like some I can eventually use along with my prismacolours.

They are oil pencils so they should be resistant.... How waterproof a budget pencil will be I am not sure

Castle arts are wax pencils..... These are oil so they are much brighter and richer but you have to build them up a little more It depends... I prefer the Brutfuner but that's because I prefer oil pencils
