I hope y’all read this! I was raised in church. I’m a strong believer but I’ve fell backwards with going to church like i should. Sunday is my only day off and i find every excuse to say i just wanna rest I’ll go next week. But when i just watched this man have a 180 inch deer on the ground and he left that deer there to make sure he spent time with the creator. You just hit me right in the heart with this. I just realized my priorities aren’t where they should be. I wouldn’t of left that deer like he just did. So i know I’m not where i should be. But you can bet your bottom dollar i will tell a diff story come next week. Awesome awesome video my brother. The most powerful part wasn’t the kill. It was him leaving to go to church. None of this is possible without the man above. And he just spoke to me through you guys! Thank you for that.

One problem you had with penetration was using a mechanical. The other was probably arrow weight. When you see a mechanical stopped buy a rib like that it's telling.
@PNY154583 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I shoot a Slick Trick Magnum (125gr) pushed by a 352gr arrow (477gr finished weight) out of a 62lb Bowtech and rarely don't get a pass thru and an inch or two of dirt on the other side. Expandable head/light arrow combo is overrated in my opinion.

I can’t believe these guys are still shooting mechanicals with all the info out there about how terrible they are with penetration.
@derekwill2 жыл бұрын
@@00_ELECTRICWIZARD_00 you have to remember that they are often hunting smaller tracts of land and can't risk the deer running for hundreds of yards. Even with a great shot , a deer shot with a fixed blade could run for a while. I used grim reapers and have always had a full pass through and watched the deer die within eyesight

Awesome deer man. I'm a huge rage fan. But ill be honest even with a 72# 30 1/2 draw mathews I had so many deer that I lacked good penetration on. Even at 20 yards. Started shooting heavier arrows with high foc and a fix blade and haven't had that issue yet. Makes no sense why you couldn't get a pass through with that shot other then the rage just open so big it slows the arrow down to fast.

CONGRATS!! What an awesome buck! As for what y'all said about the deer and Kudzu, my uncle had 100-acres in north-eastern Georgia, and he had about 5-acres around his house that he kept manicured, and there was about a half-acre of Kudzu in the back yard that had about 50-60 yards cleared/mowed all the way around it to help keep it under control, and a herd of deer came there every afternoon to eat some of it, and then after dark, they would bed down in the clearing between the Kudzu and the woods and sleep. There was one buck that was a giant! You would think someone had dropped like a monster Ohio buck off there. lol. He was a 15-point that had to be pushing close to 200-inches. My uncle did not allow anyone to hunt there, or should I say his boss (His wife) didn't allow it. lol. But anyway, the deer loved that Kudzu.

Congratulations on that awesome buck, Kendall. There sure are a lot of broadhead "experts" here. Broadhead or bullet, mechanical or fixed, shot placement is the key. I've seen enough videos of you on here that you're capable of that, this was just one of those times we've all experienced that it just didn't happen perfectly. That being said, I've used the tried and true NAP Thunderhead for the past 25 or so years. Probably the most easiest fixed blade broadhead there is to tune. Never had any tuning or performance issues with them. I'm thrifty and will even re-sharpen the replaceable blades if possible and they get reused again.

Mechanicals redirect on impact with uneven surfaces. In this case, back towards the intestines. Successful hunt, unethical kill. Kind of unfortunate.
@critter8520043 жыл бұрын
Yup, this happened to me with a rage as well. They found the deer with the arrow in it almost 1.5 miles away in a local farmer’s goat barn. It had to be euthanized by a game warden. After that I went to fixed heads only.
@Outdoor-Tactics3 жыл бұрын
@@critter852004 they’re just better. The blade width on mechanicals is a borderline joke. You should treat broadheads like knives. Strong construction, appropriate blade thickness, made of the right metal. Not ultra thin pot-metal. It’s like trying to kill a deer with a fillet knife.
@bch55133 жыл бұрын
Especially the big boys. Had a mechanical pack given to me and killed a nice buck with it the next day. Huge hole and massive blood trail, but it was mid cavity broadside. Unfortunately a week later I had a massive 10 come in hot and I was on the ground.. shot him at 10 yards facing me slightly and forgot I had a mechanical. Didn’t go in at all cause hit humeral head. Knew it was bad the moment it hit. Couldn’t get another one in unfortunately. Still sick years later and you will never see me shooting another mech. Made that shot numerous times with a coc fixed. Still not the best shot I made admittedly, but I shoot 500grain arrows at 285fps and have never had an issue with penetrating until that mechanical and I’ve shot everything conceivable.
@Outdoor-Tactics3 жыл бұрын
Small update on broadheads. Yesterday evening I made a 52 yard shot on a slightly quartering doe with a 550 grain setup and annihilator broadhead. Zipped clean through her, t-boning the entrance rib and she was down in 40 yards, didn’t even react to the arrow. I actually thought I’d missed. I shoot 72lbs at 28” of draw on a Hoyt Torrex XT. Fixed blades are accurate, please tune your bows.

Rage is what it looked like when they compared arrows in the dark. Lack of penetration is fairly common with them. Shot 2 deer with them and a 450gr arrow out of a well tuned bow and got 4” and 8” of penetration hitting behind the shoulder. Lost one deer and the other ran a ways. Went to fixed heads and a little heavier setup (500plus gr) and haven’t had that issue since.

For anyone interested...I've taken 313 whitetails by compound. I have made a SCIENCE out of the how's and why's of broad heads and wound channels. Mechanicals can and often will deflect on entry into (ESPECIALLY) larger boned animals. Deflections of scapulas, ribs, or even thicker muscles on even broadside shots. ESPECIALLY quartering shots. Cut on contact, razor sharp heads are definitely a better choice! The larger the better!
