Yeah I can see that 3D 180° working for immersive experiences in tight places where the stereoscopic effect can really shine. I can see things such as formula 1 driver's perspective to be awesome for this thing.

Nice collab. Very interesting comparison of the two formats. I agree sharing native 360 as 360 isn’t very compelling but the ability to reframe and share standard photo and video formats, which were captured originally in 360, is a major advantage.

Get a 360° stereoscopic setup, monoscopic 360 is old news. 2:28 - Excellent point, a lot of time and effort _might_ go into a 360° video to make all directions have a decent view *but* most people don't watch a few times and explore the whole sphere. It's best to continuously reframe (in Edit) to put the best direction in front of the viewer. 360° can be 2D or 3D (if it had dual cameras in each half of the sphere). 180° (if it has two cameras, not just a single wide angle lens) can record 3D and the framing is set while recording (with very limited reframing during edit). Thus the best setup (for immersive 360°-3D) is a 360° camera with paired lenses - allowing both 3D and reframing during editing. The _argument_ that he made, that a dual lens 180° camera obligates one to view in 3D is incorrect - just upload to KZbin with correct Meta and YT users can use the 'Settings Cog' to view 3D (180 or 360) in either 3D or 2D - if you only record 360° in 2D then there's no setting to switch between 2D and 3D available. Unfortunately 360° 3D cameras start at expensive and go up to extremely expensive pricing (and use bigger/better cameras and lenses). Samsung's Project Beyond and iZugar's Z6X3DC are examples of 3D360 cameras in the (barely) lower cost range.

Hey- good points. I didn’t actually say shoot 180 obligated people to watch in 3D.. infact I showed a regular 180 2D video (reframed) in this video. The future is exciting :)

Vuze+ 3D 360 is not that expensive. So no need to debate which one is better. Clearly 360 is better because you can watch the same video couple of times and each time you would explore different areas of the viewing field. I suppose this was the main idea of 360 anyways ;)

Personally I prefer the 360 camera that capture everything, instead of VR180 that capture half of the 360'. A budget friendly and portable 3D-360 camera will be the best option

the lenovo 180 camera has an option in the settings .....when u upload it to youtube u can't even rotate the 180 frame with the mouse and it looks like a standard flat 16by9 video with somewhat ok quality ......so that's the idea as far as sharing it...if people don't have a headset u share it as a standard video that doesn't look completely terrible .....and if u want u can step into it with a headset and be sort of inside the memory ......and when we get good 360 3d cameras for a good price it will be even better

Great tutorials Ben. I have a question for you. After accumulating an insta360 One, Sony Action Cam and now a Mavic Air would there be one editing software that you would use to for all three? In other words, would you use the Insta360 editing software for all three cameras?

@@BenClaremont What I do is to use the Qoocam app on the phone, click a 180° photo taken that appears and then once it is double on the screen, I insert the goggles but I see a weird image without any depth.

This video doesn't mean that you're jumping ship on the One X right?? 😜I watched Hugh Hou's 360 video footage comparisons between Qoocam & Insta360 One X - and One X video still looks better (plus it has that hyperlapse stuff!). Sooo I feel like this is for hobbyists who want an extra toy to play with for creativity sake, but will still default to one x or fusion to do good quality stuff for social, or for potential gigs... does that sound about right? lmk!! Honestly, it’s still early days for 360 as well. In a professional setting in Los Angeles, clients are very rarely looking for 360...yet. I think that will change soon though.

Especially for viewing on a phone, 180 videos look way much better than 360 since they have that 3d effect that 360 videos don't actually. Plus, for 360, you need to at least watch the video in 4k to have a clear image, and only the most expensive phones can do that. 180 doesn't require that much quality in order to be watchable. 1440p would be good. Long story short, 360 is good for video games cuz you can rotate with the controller.
