Is the three speed switch needed for the motor to move?
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage 11 ай бұрын
Nope, the controller works just fine if there's no three speed switch. If it is left unplugged, I believe it's put on the highest speed setting. Some controllers need to be put on a switch to access the highest speed mode, but this one didn't.

Hello. Amazing project. I had a question regarding your wiring though. I have a 48V motor, 750W. A brushless controller 48V, 750W. A bicycle battery of 48V, 20Ah. I have to make an autonomous cart using a 20kg servo motor for the steering wheels. I'm trying to figure out the whole wiring diagram for the main motor and the brushless controller.. Would appreciate your help

Hi, thank you for reaching out! I have a second video about my go-kart project that goes into a little bit more detail. It also includes a rough wiring explanation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYOyf3x4fMiWhKM Most brushes DC motors are based on sine wave geometry, so it's likely your 750W motor and controller kit is wired similarly. Do you need a proper wiring diagram for the internals of the speed controller or would an explanation of what the wires do be sufficient?

@@agondahsyla7488 I do have a wiring diagram for my specific controller. It may help you find out what wires do for your controller. You can also send me an email (in my channels about section) of an image and description of your controller. There are many motor kits out there, so I don't know the specifics of your wiring and I make no promises that I know how your controller works.

so i just got a Trailmaster Cheetah i6 for my kids christmas present, brand new, just delivered and assembled today. It supposedly has 3 speeds, L/M/H. however, its only switching L/M, M/H speed selection does nothing to increase the speed. Thinking its just the switch?
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
It could just be a faulty switch. I have a wiring diagram in my other video where I go over my gokart. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYOyf3x4fMiWhKM) @ 2:25 I don't go into much further detail than showing a picture of the wires, but it might help you find the connection you are looking for. Something else I will note is that the speed modes only limit the top speed of the motor and not the torque applied. If the power of the motor is limiting the top speed, then regardless of the speed mode selected, the kart will not be faster. Please let me know if this helps.
@dcrawf36
@dcrawf36 Жыл бұрын
@@Newwinggarage well it’s not the switch. I pulled the switch to bypass it and connected the wire terminals as the switch would and still could not get it to High speed. Only low and medium. I’ll check the wires tomorrow, besides that it must be a faulty controller idk. It’s difficult because these go carts come with a universal harness apparently so there’s lots of things unplugged/not used.

Hi, I am a highschooler in the STEM academy, and my group's capstone project was to make a gasoline powered lawnmower into an electric vehicle. We bought this kit to do our connection, and believe we have everything connected right, but it is not working. Is there any way we can get on a zoom call with you and show you our project and connection in hopes of fixing it?
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing your project with me - converting a gasoline-powered lawnmower into an electric vehicle sounds like an exciting and innovative endeavor! However, I'm currently unable to join Zoom calls due to my schedule. I would still love to help as much as I can. Feel free to email me detailed pictures or a video of your setup, along with a description of the problem. It's often the case that issues with such conversions stem from wiring connections or control system setup. If you can also include details about the kit you used and the steps you've followed, that would be very helpful. You can find my email address in the 'About' section of my KZbin channel. Looking forward to hearing from you, and I'll do my best to assist via email! Best of luck with your capstone project!

Do you have just a picture of the throttle wires? Having a hard time figuring out which ones to combine to use the original throttle like you did
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
Yes I do in fact! I'm not sure how you want me to send it to you though... but, I may be able to help clear some things up. So, the original throttle has 6 pins/wires. I had Yellow, Blue, Brown wires on top (opposite a male clip thing) and Red, Black, White on bottom (close to a male clip thing). The bottom three wires/pins (R,B,W) are for the potentiometer in the throttle (the throttle of the throttle). As far as I remember, Black (middle) was ground, Red was input, and White was output. I ended up just messing around with them until it worked. The top three pins are for the LED's for battery power and low voltage light. I still don't know what the Brown wire was for, but the Yellow and Blue wires on top were the positive and negative of both the power and battery light. Unfortunately, there are multiple iterations of this throttle. Some have four wires and some have six. I hope I could help, and please let me know if you need anything else! P.S. here is a link to my version of throttle on amazon to help visualize things: www.amazon.com/Thumb-Throttle-Razor-Drifter-W25143400043/dp/B09FYK4HW8

is it possible to put this on a mx350?
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
Kinda? I'm not sure exactly what you're asking here, but it is not an easy plug and play solution. At the bare minimum, you'll need to drill new mounting holes for the motor, adapt the chain and sprocket, and mount the speed controller. You will also need to upgrade the batteries. As for fitment, the motor should fit as it's much longer, but not much wider than the stock motor. Really, you can locate the speed controller wherever. Lastly, there are a plethora of options for making a 48 volt battery system. So, I hope that answers your question.

@@Newwinggarage i have a question what batteries did u user for the kit
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
@@6buckets I used 4 12V, 7Ah lead acid batteries I wired in series. I bought the pack of 4 from Amazon by Expert Power, and paid $80. I actually am regretting it a little bit, because the batteries don't last very long. They also have a lot of voltage sag when under load, take up a lot of space, and are very heavy. Their saving grace is that they are CHEAP AND EASY! (Which is enough for now) If I was spending this kind of money again, I would double my battery budget and find a lithium polymer or lithium ion battery pack that can do 48 volts and 30A discharge continuously. But then again... Money.

How does the charger work?
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry for responding so late to comments, I kinda just made this video and forgot about it. 😅 Anyway, the charger that I purchased was a standard lead acid battery charger for a 48V system. The charger itself has its own quirks and features and looks a bit sketchy as it will pulse charge when the batteries get close to full. I ended up wiring the charger through the speed controller and have been having no issues thus far. That being said, not having a battery management system is likely not great for the four batteries I have in series. Let me know if you have any questions! And thankyou for asking!

@newwing7607 where did you get the 3 speed switch, i am trying to make the motor go slower and setting the switch to 1 might do the trick
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
I just searched for a "3 mode switch" and there are may options online or places like Home Depot. I personally bought all the electronics you see in the video on amazon. As a short stop solution, you can short the three modes with some dummy wire, it should be harmless (because that's what the switch does).

can u run a test howlong it can run for? im planning to mod a mobility scooter with a 48v 1800w motor but i don't know what capacity i need for my batteries.
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
Well, I can tell you from experience that 30A at 48V is a lot of draw for small batteries. The 7Ah lead acid batteries I am using have a power band of around 5 minutes. I say power band because after five minutes of consistent acceleration, the battery voltage sag drops below 40V, and the power/torque of the motor is significantly weaker. The batteries last ideally about 15 minutes or just around 2 miles when going from fully charged to dead. There are a lot of factors when looking at battery life like: how many accelerations, terrain changes, gears, at what speed, and more. If you are modding a mobility scooter, I would want close to an hour of run time, so a ~25 Ah lead acid or a ~20 Ah lithium battery @ 48V. (For batteries with a low current output you have to make them bigger to account for excess stress. Lead is weaker than lithium for the most part.) It is also a good idea to look at the "C rating" for the batteries you will be using. This will tell you the maximum constant current you can draw. Hope this helps.

Can I use the motor alone with my own speed control knob? I don’t need those other parts that you have. Will it work?
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage Жыл бұрын
uhhh... Some clarification is needed... The motor is a three phase hall senser DC motor. You need a speed controller for that kind of motor because it doesn't just work with a straight DC voltage applied. You need brains like the one that comes with the kit. Does your speed control knob regulate voltage for a 3-phase hall effect DC motor? If so, then I think it should work. On the other hand, if we are assuming that you are talking about my potentiometer throttle attached to the speed controller, then any 5-volt potentiometer will do. Most throttles / speed control knobs are that standard (no guaranties though). @A.Dotin4K I hope this helps, and please let me know if you got any questions.

@@Newwinggarage i have 4x3ah batteries is the combined value at the end 12ah? and how long do you reckon that would run for
@Newwinggarage
@Newwinggarage 5 ай бұрын
@@tkalobudalo that depends on how the batteries are wired. If it's 4 x 12V wired in series then max output is 48 volt at 3 Ah. If the batteries are wired and parallel, the total voltage 12 volts, and capacity 12 Ah. For a 3 amp hour lead acid battery, I would expect around 2 to 3 minutes of solid run time. For 12 amp hours, I would expect about 16 minutes of runtime. If the batteries are LiPo or Li-ion, then I would expect double the runtime I listed because of the relative discharge curves.
